This is exactly it, and studies support this. |

I think obesity has gone up significantly because people quit smoking.
People need something to soothe their nerves and food took the place of smoking. I think lots of people have a death wish or don't care if they live or die so they smoked or now eat too much, even when knowing it's bad for them. I think addiction medicine is in its infancy. People have priblems with thinking food can be addictive but it is and the whole notion of addiction to anything needs to have he shame taken out of it. It is acceptable now to shame people for obesity and people like RFK Jr will not help us progress with obesity treatment because he believes in outdated ideas as well as very questionable ideas. |
| Diabetes is nice joke. |
| ^^no joke |
+1 Go for a 10-20 min walk daily as lunch break, and if job allows it, take another 1-2 breaks and walk for 10 mins each. It will make you more productive, make you feel better and keep you healthier. Life is about choices, 99% of people are overweight from the choices they make. Sure some have a genetic disposition, but then you are aware of that and just need to work harder to ensure you don't fall into it. Diet is another thing. Cut out unhealthy carbs. Go to a whole food diet---protein sources (get 30g with each meal), lots of vegetables and fruits. Cut out processed foods and breads/snacks/etc. You can get all your carbs from Whole Foods (veggies and fruits). Try that for 2 weeks and weight will drop off, almost guaranteed. If you need to snack, have carrots/radishes with some guacamole (low cal veggies and healthy fats will help fill you up). Get your "sweets" from berries and apples/fruits. Literally cut out breads/cereals/empty calories and carbs. They serve no purpose except to make you crave sugars/processed foods. Eliminate alcohol and sweet drinks. After 3-7 days you will no longer crave sweets/processed foods. You can literally eat as much as you want of these things and you will still loose weight. |
How many medications cause "severe weight gain" and what are they being used to treat? DP: but I believe in finding the root cause of my health issues, and fixing it rather than just continuing to medicate away my life and cause so many problems. Because other than cancer meds, I'm not sure I'd take them |
People struggle to loose weight because their diet is crap and they don't get exercise. All you need to do is walk 10K steps per day (done in 45 -60 mins total) and eat healthier. Cut out crap and eat Whole Foods and ditch carbs that are not from fruits and veggies. People also don't want to fix their issues, they just want a pill, which typically has other side effects, so they need another pill, etc........ |
But it can be treated with exercise and changing your diet. You can reverse it (Type 2 you can). You just have to put in the work. I know 2 family members who have done so and my functional medicine doctor routinely treats people who do so as well. But you have to take it seriously and no, it's not easy. You are creating a new lifestyle, one with healthy eating and exercise. You have to watch your carbs---really everyone should be doing that. Fat isn't evil, it's sugars that are evil and terrible for us. When you eat them from processed sources, you crave more and more, it's a vicious cycle. |
Are Americans as a whole less willing to "fix their issues" than Europeans who have much lower obesity rates? Why? |
If that's your goal in life, then you are not entirely wrong. Obese people don't live as long either, so you won't have to give the gov as much of your wealth in the form of taxes, fees, licenses, etc. either.

Bolded part = Food Pyramid. Created decades ago by government. That will make you think, if you are capable of reflection. Italics part = backwards. You meant a conspiracy to make people think obesity is ok. "big is beautiful" propangada. Picture show a morbidly obese and unhealthy woman, yet the "powers that be" are gaslighting gullible people into thinking that's ok.

So we started celebrating obese people and the.ln people became obese

| I am overweight, bordering on obese. The intial cause was a thyroid issue and the resulting fatigue from that led to a much more sedentary lifestyle. Over the years, I just stopped caring as much about being fit and when life lacks enjoyment, I get it from food. At some point, your internal persective of yourself shifts and now being the size I am is just my normal and not really a big deal. Do I love my naked body - no, but honestly I didn;t really love it when I was 50 lbs lighter either. When I was in my 20s or 30s I would have been horrified to even picture myself at this weight and out of shape but now it doesn't really bother me. I am in my 50s and no health issues to date that are weight related. Maybe because I was quite in shape until 15 years ago or maybe they are just around the corner. |
I have no answer on “why” but we are different culture. We prioritize wealth/capitalism, work, convenience, cheap goods, among things. While you see elements of this around the world, it’s to a much lesser extent. |
The aspects of our "culture" that you describe are fundamental elements of our economic system. So you agree that the issue is systemic. |
