It's a problem because inevitably non obese shell out billions of dollars to compensate for the incredible drain obese people are on our society.
We get obese working long hours at assigned seats in office buildings that we can't walk to from where we live. But we produce plenty of market value before interventions are required. Eating garbage food also fattens the profits of the fast food industry and most food conglomerates. This also has contributed to economic growth as the agriculture sector has been transformed by this change in consumer habits. You're only looking at the externalities and not the full accounting. RTO takes personal commute time people could devote to exercise and reassign it to a polluting, sedentary pastime. Yet many conservatives believe RTO is "productive". You cannot blame people for every consequence of our obesogenic culture.
I drive 45 minutes each way, to an office where I sit for 9+ hours, 5 days a week, and I am not even remotely close to overweight. Take responsibility for your choices.
+1 Go for a 10-20 min walk daily as lunch break, and if job allows it, take another 1-2 breaks and walk for 10 mins each. It will make you more productive, make you feel better and keep you healthier. Life is about choices, 99% of people are overweight from the choices they make. Sure some have a genetic disposition, but then you are aware of that and just need to work harder to ensure you don't fall into it. Diet is another thing. Cut out unhealthy carbs. Go to a whole food diet---protein sources (get 30g with each meal), lots of vegetables and fruits. Cut out processed foods and breads/snacks/etc. You can get all your carbs from Whole Foods (veggies and fruits). Try that for 2 weeks and weight will drop off, almost guaranteed. If you need to snack, have carrots/radishes with some guacamole (low cal veggies and healthy fats will help fill you up). Get your "sweets" from berries and apples/fruits. Literally cut out breads/cereals/empty calories and carbs. They serve no purpose except to make you crave sugars/processed foods. Eliminate alcohol and sweet drinks. After 3-7 days you will no longer crave sweets/processed foods. You can literally eat as much as you want of these things and you will still loose weight.
