Once Dems control the WH again, will they refill all the FTEs Trump slashed?

What would be the reason? Aren’t these jobs essential like USAID?

DP but maybe we will see how things run with everything slashed and decide what is really essential. Maybe automation and AI will make some jobs obsolete. They will also need a budget to hire back federal employees and will need to make a strong case for increasing that budget.

The government is currently in tatters. They are firing people who generate the information and statistics that markets need. They are firing researchers. They are firing people who evaluate drug safety. If people aren't rehired, we won't be the nation we were just 3 months ago. If there is another public health crisis, we are toast.

I’d like to rehire scientists and inspector generals, if there any left in the US by then.

Oh, I’m pp, and I’d also like the data scientists and economists to return, and the IRS team who does business audits. Oh, and the FDA inspectors and disease specialists.

Why is this list so long????

Of course they won’t. They might be upset on a personal level but I believe they like the savings.

Do we have to wait four years for our jobs to return or are they gone for good?

Democrats want whatever will destroy America the fastest.

They will just amp the hiring of contractors to fill the void. I think even if that means having TPcs filling inherently governmental roles.

I'm surprised the administration hasn't set up a bunch of drug tests already to flush people out. Tons of employees/contractors taking gummies or smoking weed. Once you lose that clearance you're not getting it back just because the next POTUS is a D.

The “when they go low, we go high” ethos will ensure a feeble response.

4 of the current and 8 years of JD, that is over a decade, not sure anyone can wait around that long

Why would they have to jump through any hoops at all?

We let a bunch of half-witted toddlers destroy the country in a few months, why would the Democrats have to work to rebuild it?

Because most Americans do not care. They don’t see the benefits of government in general and USAID in particular. The government is not popular with Americans. They don’t respect government employees. It won’t be a popular campaign item to grow the government or hire employees back. I say this as a government employee. I love what I do but I fully understand that the American public want me gone, if not dead.

Absolutely correct.

This is part of the problem. The entitlement to a federal government job.

Spoken like a true bootlicker.

I actually think the virulent anti-govt crowd is a pretty small group. They’re loud but not as big and mighty as they think. DOGE has been pretty unpopular and is shaping up to be an abject failure. Unfortunately it’s a few nutjobs on Twitter who have been running policy/DOGE cuts but it’s not actually a popular platform. Yes, many Americans didn’t care enough to vote or do any research but the more they hear about these cuts, the more they see of Elon, the more they dislike them. That’s not to say that they haven’t done tremendous damage to this country that will probably take decades to undo but it’s really more Americans’ apathy and ignorance than anything else.

At least one agency (fda) is just hiring contractors to do the work after they fired too many people. There will be rehiring in the future but probably not in the way that things are now. Which again, will be worse— contractors cost the govt far, far more than FTEs.
