What is this phenomenon and how can I snap out of it?

it sounds like Interstitial cystitis. Do you do kegals everyday if not you should.

I had a childhood urinary frequency anxiety. Somatic therapy helped. It was wild. I wasn’t trying to clear up the pee thing, but it improved dramatically when I had an emotional release associated with shoulder tension and parental support. I was in my mid 30s at the time. It had zero to do with anything physical down below. I must have used the bathroom as a safe space as a kid or something like that. I had a cry and then realized later that day it was better. No more urgency….until late motherhood and pelvic floor injury, and now peri.

So I guess that’s long for / try therapy? Sometimes it’s emotional holding. Also if you have an overactive urethra the muscles can be sort of stuck “on” and can take a bit to relax after you go. Make sure not to push your pee out. Let your stream happen without force.

Keep a log of times you go and rough amounts and how much you're eating and drinking. Look for balance in input and output. Also look up a list of common bladder irritants and note if there's any correlation with consuming those.

There's a flip side to holding it in. It can contribute to kidney stones if you are prone. I was told any time I have to pee-just go. Don't try to hold it unless it's an emergency and I can't get to a rest room.

What are your everyday drinks?

If they are Zero soda products, .. these cause me to pee faster than anything else. I know caffeine will do this, something about these sodas makes me have to pee approx 2-5 minutes later.

Same boat as you OP. It’s maddening.

This is me as well, though mostly when I lie down or when my period is due. Now in perimenopause I find myself waking up to pee 10-20 times per night for the couple days before my period.

Wow people are uneducated about menopause and perimenopause. OP, I assume you're a woman? You need to use vaginal estrogen if you're over 40-45ish. 2-3x a week, until you die. It's an Rx from your doctor. It's not systemic so no issues if you're anti HRT. It helps urinary urgency, prevents bladder infections, etc.

Women in their 70s and 80s die of UTIs that could be prevented with this simple regimen. It's outrageous. But anyway I'm 44 and was getting bladder issues and THANK GOD switched to an educated, useful doctor from a moronic NP. He put me on it and then I did a lite googling- it's a no brainer.

I’m on an estrogen patch and I’m not seeing much improvement. What is the difference?

This started in my 40s. It was perimenopause and I needed vag estrogen.
