+1. Stop trying to force beliefs on others, whether directly or indirectly.

You mean beliefs such as terminating a life inside the womb isn’t the same type of murder as terminating a life outside the womb?…or beliefs such as boys can magically declare themselves to be girls and vice versa?

Oh wait…those are YOUR “religious beliefs” that you are imposing on others. And those are okay…got it.

Why did you put "religious beliefs" in quotes? Perhaps because you actually believe that only atheists believe these things. These are liberal stances. And not all liberals agree with them. Maybe it's liberals you hate. Maybe you should go to the politics forum and discuss your concerns there.

Without their pointless questions, half the debate would die out.
True Atheist/ Agnostic would be ignoring it.

None of this makes sense. They "keep religion alive by fighting it"? Absurd at its core. Are you really saying that if atheists stopped fighting religion it would die out lol?

And of course the debate would die out if people stopped debating (lol again). But that is not what atheists are debating for...to win an argument or to "keep a debate alive". We debate or fight religion because we deeply believe that there are genuine and very real harms of religion...which have all been outlined in several previous threads.

Your last point that makes no sense is that being an atheist or agnostic means that you "ignore" religion. Again absurd. Being an atheist, the very definition of the word, has no basis in whether or not you "ignore" religion. It is simply, by definition, the lack of a belief in a god.

If you genuinely want to know why atheists argue against religion, keeping in mind that people like me do not hate religious people, nor do we knock on your doors, then I'm sure myself and many others will be glad to oblige by enumerating the many and varied ways in which religion has caused harm and continues to do harm. I feel it is my moral duty to at least speak out when the chance arises.

There’s no good evidence for the existence of a God.

I get how that must burn when it’s pointed out that the emperor has no clothes. I’d be bitter also and make posts just like the one you created here.

You have my sympathy and my pity OP.

How are people imposing their religions on you? Are you getting baptized on the sidewalk?

No sidewalk baptism offers, just general disdain. People of different religions, in the US, at least, tend to be nice to each other, but if you say you're an atheist, people become cool - or try to convert you.

They may dislike you for being atheist - so what, it’s a free country. No one is hostile or forcing you to get baptized.

no forced baptisms, but lots of hostility -- like right here - where it's OK to be of any religion, but not OK to be atheist.

Not being forced to be baptized, but being forced to have intelligent design taught in schools along with the ten commandments and the Bible. That's just one example pertaining to education.

Keeping religion alive by fighting it is the debate in here.
Energy flows where attention goes.
Antitheism isn’t just lack of belief it’s active opposition.

Right here I see some hostility going both ways, to be honest. A lot of times atheists are aggressive and trolling in threads that are irrelevant to them. Like a thread where people are sharing how they became religious. And almost every reply gets attacked and criticized. That really surprised me, because I can see how religious people can get defensive if their faith is being attacked, but I really don’t understand how an atheist can get offended by someone else believing in God. This just doesn’t make sense. If you hate football, why would you go to football message boards and troll football fans? Maybe if you were really badly bullied by football players and can’t get over it. Or you wanted to be one and failed. Or some other trauma cause by football. Otherwise, you just wouldn’t care. This is just how I see it.

I was an atheist myself for many years before I became Christian, and things like bible and religious talk were the most boring things I could imagine. You would never see me on this board or having a heated discussion on that subject with anyone. I simply couldn’t care less, and felt a little pity for my “confused” religious friends(lol).

Give me evidence for consciousness, love or Justice.
The universe owes you no evidence.

Yes I actively oppose religion whenever the opportunity arises…not by forcing my opinion on others (as was done to me and my family in a horrific way) but rather by merely expressing this opinion when there is a discussion where it would be appropriate to do so.
And again..how in the world is debating religion keeping it alive lol? If all it took to have religion die out was for atheists to stop discussing it then I would bet we all would have it over with tomorrow. The premise makes no sense

If they know someone is an atheist, they're hostile. You're correct that no one is forcing baptisms. I should be glad about that?

By the way, many atheists these days are already baptized. at birth, by their parents, before they had any say in the matter. Before they could even speak, or poop in the potty.
