If you could only agree to practice your religion without imposing it on the rest of us, you'd get a different response.
How are people imposing their religions on you? Are you getting baptized on the sidewalk?
No sidewalk baptism offers, just general disdain. People of different religions, in the US, at least, tend to be nice to each other, but if you say you're an atheist, people become cool - or try to convert you.
They may dislike you for being atheist - so what, it’s a free country. No one is hostile or forcing you to get baptized.
no forced baptisms, but lots of hostility -- like right here - where it's OK to be of any religion, but not OK to be atheist.
Right here I see some hostility going both ways, to be honest. A lot of times atheists are aggressive and trolling in threads that are irrelevant to them. Like a thread where people are sharing how they became religious. And almost every reply gets attacked and criticized. That really surprised me, because I can see how religious people can get defensive if their faith is being attacked, but I really don’t understand how an atheist can get offended by someone else believing in God. This just doesn’t make sense. If you hate football, why would you go to football message boards and troll football fans? Maybe if you were really badly bullied by football players and can’t get over it. Or you wanted to be one and failed. Or some other trauma cause by football. Otherwise, you just wouldn’t care. This is just how I see it. I was an atheist myself for many years before I became Christian, and things like bible and religious talk were the most boring things I could imagine. You would never see me on this board or having a heated discussion on that subject with anyone. I simply couldn’t care less, and felt a little pity for my “confused” religious friends(lol).
