Violence around MacArthur H.S.

Anonymous
I am a MacArthur HS parent. My child says this is adults freaking out and that the school is safe and other than being "loud and annoying" the D6 bus that most take is also safe.

Sure but where MA is located, you don’t expect violence in that neighborhood. So if there is now when MA opened, then that is a direct correlation.

DP. I'd be careful about what you're implying here.

I think what they're implying is that it's a neighborhood with historically very little crime, so if there was an uptick in crime after the school opened, it is likely students (or teachers?) are responsible. What do they need to be careful about exactly?

Are you really that obtuse? To recap, a bunch of UMC white people are upset about the uptick in crime in their expensive neighborhood after a school opens that is attended by mostly black and brown kids.

What does it matter who attends the school. The issue is that there is an increase in crime after the school opened.

I mean if what PP above says it’s correct, then it is definately crime that is not typical - weapons in yards, people getting beat up, weed smoked out in public, etc….

So you don’t think finding weapons and getting beat up is a big deal……..

Trolls really be trying to bring MacArthur down. Amazing how badly the Palisades neighborhood is rooting against this school. Unfortunately for the Palisades what is happening within the school is solid. Lots of success across the board academically with students winning state competitions in STEM and history. If you don't want your kid to be a part of the success then by all means go to JR or pay an absurd amount at a private school.

I live in the neighborhood and I loathe the changes since the school opened. It IS noiser and the kids are a pain on the sidewalks, they loiter, hang around and are disruptive. They smoke and are straight up RUDE. The traffic situation is out of control and I hate to say it because I'd love for my kid to have a close and convenient IB HS, but Im not rooting for the school

This is an insane take (not rooting for the school?) it's too late, school NIMBY. The school is here to stay. You are going to have to adjust and to share your sidewalks with teenagers.

I take my kids to school and it's true. Also a lot of white kids are vaping and doing drugs after school and before. Some of you parents want to turn a blind eye to this situation.

Ok but school is majority black so are you saying the black kids are not vaping and doing drugs too? I find that really hard to believe.

Better post would be many of the kids are doing, etc…

OP says the neighbors are posting it on the list serve. Another poster, who lives in the neighborhood verified that they saw it on there.

So things you don’t like to hear, you call trolls.

Denial will get you nowhere. Acknowledge the truth and take steps to correct or rectify the situation is the way forward.

Many years ago they found a cache of arms around the canal before 5th of July. So, things happen in Palisades near McArthur that is related to DC, but not that school.

Photos? Or rumors? Evidence that it is actually school kids?

Listen, high school kids get up to all sorts of trouble, always have, but the hyperbole and pearl clutching by trolls is ridiculous

And rumors that confirm your anti-DCPS bias, you call truth. Pot, meet kettle.

Bias implies beliefs don’t match the underlying distribution
