Violence around MacArthur H.S.

^ Proves you have never been inside the building and therefore have nothing but assumptions. So please, keep posting! MacArthur has some of the District’s most talented teachers and the success within the building overshadows your perception from outside.

It is not a fact that knives are hidden throughout the school and also not a fact that weapons and what not are hidden in neighbors’ yards. I am basing this on my child’s observations and on the fact that this has never been reported to the school.

Yes at the bus stop the kids can be loud and unruly. Yes there are children smoking weed and vaping on the way too and from
school. Sadly, unless you are at one of the selective high schools, this is how some of the students behave. This, however, is not the majority of the school. The teachers at MA and the administration are fantastic and your child can choose to stay away from kids who are unruly.

OP you definitely should not send your child to MA or JR if these are dealbreakers for you.If you decide you are still interested in MA, by all means schedule a tour and ask to speak with parents. Good luck!

Students at the selective high schools behave like this, too. Don't kid yourself.

I don't think so. I'm the one who lives near Banneker and I walk through a crowd of students every morning and afternoon, and I have never smelled weed coming from them, and I've never witnessed any rowdy behavior. I've been inside the school, too, and it's very peaceful.

Genuinely curious: What can the school—really any school—do to control the small number of kids that make being a pedestrian or bus rider around dismissal easier?

I get that it’s not school grounds but I seem to remember a Hardy principal following rowdy kids into Safeway? Or is that not true?

Why are the kids so wild outside of the building? Maybe the talented teachers should help with this issue.

You do realize your personal experience is not universal, right? You have that much self-awareness?

Macarthur has teachers and the APs who go
to the bus stops and key corners outside the school to keep an eye on things. This isn’t even part of their jobs per se, but they do it. And they discipline offenders to the fullest extent possible within what DCPS Chapter 25 of the municipal code permits.

Proves you have no facts and data to back up your unsupported claims.

lol. Clearly, your anecdotal experience proves that no Banneker students smoke pot or are rowdy.

I'm sure they do. But it does not spill over into the neighborhood at all, which seems to be what this thread is about.

This is hilariously untrue. Even your anecdote-as-data is wrong.

No they don't. YOU don't kid yourself. That is the beauty of the selective high school - for the most part the disruptive kids have been screened out. (Parent of a Walls student - none of this nonsense going on there).

This is hilarious. Walls kids smoke a TON of weed.

Maybe? But they aren't disruptive about it

So you don’t think finding weapons and getting beat up is a big deal……..

Evidence?

OP says the neighbors are posting it on the list serve. Another poster, who lives in the neighborhood verified that they saw it on there.

I'm on the Palisades listserve and have seen nothing of the sort. People are losing their cats, setting stuff out for free, and advertising programing at the library....

It wasn’t on Listserve, it was on Nextdoor. And as a fellow Palisades neighbor, I can confirm that it was.

So, if you didn’t hear about it, it didn’t happen? Are you so special a parent that you are made aware of everything reported to the school? The school admin knows exactly what’s going on in the neighborhood.
