Is that true?
Will Canada really not let non-citizens in if they have committed a crime?

I’m Canadian, and I know someone with a dui here who cannot go to the states because of it. So yes, seems common for countries to ban entry based on past crimes.

To OP- yes, tourists are very welcome! As pp said, leave your maga sh!t at home. But Canada loves tourists, and your money goes so far here.

Even in good times, Canadians are nice and polite but not friendly in that American sense. They're more reserved. I'm a dual citizen and live in 1/2 times in both places.

Can you recommend a favorite long weekend type area to visit - because we’d like to spend tourist $ in Canada?

Ummm it's kind of a big country. What do you like? When?

Why would Canada be mad at the US because of tarrifs?

That and repeated talk of making us the 51st State. Calling our Prime Minister a Governor. The Fentanyl risk from Canada is highly exaggerated.

You haven’t been paying attention. It’s not about tariffs, it’s about sovereignty.

Yes, but they can file paperwork before the visit or at the border for a TRP. Canada doesn't have to grant the TRP, but there is a way to appeal the blanked no access for those with DUIs on their record. Also, just because you are granted TRP once doesn't meant you'll get it again. And submitting the TRP paperwork ahead of time can be expensive because you have to use a proxy in Canada.

My cousin had no issue getting a TRP when he was accompanying his son's class on a trip there. He applied beforehand and it was granted so there would be no holdup or issues at the border. However, he was denied access a few years ago when trying to travel for a wedding.

Search Border Security Canada on YouTube. There are numerous channels that have videos. Yes, it's reality TV and full of hype and drama. But full of DUIs, people coming to work, illegal food, etc. getting rejected entry. Along with "more serious" stuff like drugs/human trafficking.

Border crossings are no joke.

Canada has a higher human development index than the US.

Show me an example of people taking kindly to talk of being annexed by a less functional neighbor.

+1 They do not want to hear their neighboring country is going to invade them and annex their country. They want to retain their autonomy and rights. Is that so hard to understand?

Imagine if China started calling the US a wayward province. Do you think you might be a little bit upset?

For those booking flights, expect future schedule changes as flights are consolidated for the future because of low demand.

I just had a busy project end - unexpectedly so have time from now til June. We hike, bike, golf but also like really good food and nice accommodations. Easy airport access too.
