Even in good times, Canadians are nice and polite but not friendly in that American sense. They're more reserved. I'm a dual citizen and live in 1/2 times in both places.

Can you recommend a favorite long weekend type area to visit - because we’d like to spend tourist $ in Canada?

Ummm it's kind of a big country. What do you like? When?

I just had a busy project end - unexpectedly so have time from now til June. We hike, bike, golf but also like really good food and nice accommodations. Easy airport access too.

Mid-late June is great for Banff, but it’s a bit far. Montreal is beautiful too.

Toronto is an easy trip with great international cuisine, any level of accommodations.
For serious hiking, consider the Bruce trail, which can be accessed an hour away. It’s the longest footpath in Ontario.
Or the Don Valley, which is right in Toronto. Or the ravines.
For cycling, you could cycle along the waterfront in Toronto and head east or west.
If you’re a serious cyclist, you can ride all the way to Niagara Falls.
Or drive to Niagara Falls, cycle around Niagara on the lake and do some wine tasting, stay overnight in a nice B and B.
I don’t golf but there’s plenty of that in and around Toronto.

You can fly into Pearson or the downtown airport Billy Bishop and within 20 min, you can be at your hotel.

Toronto or Montreal? Both have United nonstop flights.

You haven’t been paying attention. It’s not about tariffs, it’s about sovereignty.

+1 They do not want to hear their neighboring country is going to invade them and annex their country. They want to retain their autonomy and rights. Is that so hard to understand?

Imagine if China started calling the US a wayward province. Do you think you might be a little bit upset?

Exactly, Trump’s treatment of Canada right now sounds very Putin-ish. And that’s his buddy that he looks up to with respect and admiration…

Is that true?
Will Canada really not let non-citizens in if they have committed a crime?

You can be turned away at the border, yes.

Why should someone with a criminal record be allowed in? The US has the same rule.

I remember seeing somewhere Chris brown can’t tour there because of his DV stuff so I could believe it.

Anyone with a record can be turned away. Bands on tour have had to rebook the Canadian leg because a member didn't apply for a pardon.

That’s a lot of countries policies. My friend was turned away from Bermuda years ago for a weed charge.

A do know plenty of people who have gone to Canada with previous DUI charges. Not recent ones though.

I’m a dual citizen living in the US. They will not automatically assume you’re Maga. Most Canadians have friends and relatives in the US who are also upset how things are going.

There are some jerks, just like here, ignore them. I once got heckled at a gas station in Canada driving a car with a US license plate, the guy said something like “f Biden”. He was the Canadian version of MAGA.

So go have a good time and spend some money.

Check out Nova Scotia. Really nice golf resorts, hiking, kayaking, etc. Very easy to fly into Halifax.

Things are changing. The US will cause a lot of unemployment in Canada as soon as the tariffs hits. I can see a lot of anger directed at Americans Tourists.

I just got back from a business trip to Toronto. Canadians were friendly as always. They know Trump is the issue
