How do we rebuild our government?

You would need to borrow trillions from China.

Citizen's United needs to be killed. Donor limits by individuals and organizations.

Yes, this!

Bring back the Fairness Doctrine.
Repeal Section 230 holding tech legally responsible for things posted and amplified on social media.
Stop Gerrymandering.
And repeal Citizens United.

I’m ok with two parties but you must stop gerrymandering.

1) Ranked choice voting
2) Mandatory publicly financed campaigns

It’s actually pretty simple to implement but the problem is that these efforts are blocked by powerful interests.

The only reason Democrats kept this past election close was by wildly outspending Republicans. We should be careful what we wish for.

No ranked choice will give fringe groups more power. Pass.

Nah. I’m staying for the retribution.

That’s what this Trump presidency is: retribution for the resistance in his last presidency and the reaction to Biden and the liberals stupidity ( border and trans cult) these last 4 years.

I guess this is how it’s going to be every election, tit for tat.

Nothing is going to help rebuild short of a colossal natural disaster.

Hillary Clinton was neither of those and she still lost. Democrats need a candidate who inspires the same kind of energy in their base that Trump does in his. But we haven't seen anybody like that since Obama.

Democrats just need to counter the RW “digital army”.

I get the sense democrats said “oh, no one believes all that fake news and troll posting, let’s not bother with social media”

And put caps on fundraising and campaign spending so that everyone is working with more similar piggy banks.

it’d give them less power

Based on the AG's comments today as they related to signalgate, it is clear the GOP cannot be trusted with independent guardians of the law, and as such the AG role and the DOJ should probably become independent agencies.

??? The GOP consistently outspends the Democrats. Are you forgetting the quarter of a billion dollars Musk tossed in casually to be paired with all the other billionaire donations?

Unfortunately, the Biden Administration slow-walked the accountability part of rebuilding, did nothing to close the loopholes Trump exposed, and thought holding Trump up as a existential threat would force people to keep Dems in power.

All that to say, we won't be able to rebuild anything until we rid ourselves of politicians, on both sides, who believe they can exploit and benefit from the existing status quo.

+1 I listened to an excellent podcast called After Trump, with two expert longtime government attorneys from both sides of the aisle recommending how to make all of the “norms” that abound in our system which Trump kept defying into laws. We did manage to codify changes to the Electoral Count Act which was important but very few others were done. Trump left a total mess for Biden to dig out of but it’s still disappointing.

And the millions he is currently spending to buy special elections.
