Tax the Rich - New MAGA Chant?

Anonymous
I think that once the tax cut gets going, there needs to be a viral campaign in which known rich people post how much their tax cut will be.

Are MAGA really falling for that?

Non-MAGA Republicans are pissed. Most of my family is made up of non-MAGA Republicans who served their country in the various armed services. They hate Musk and everything that he is doing. They are slowly turning on Trump for allowing Musk to have so much power.

Yes, my MAGA family truly believes the lies about paid protestors.

So, they would rather have government tax the MC more than the rich?

Democratic protestors SHOULD show up to Republican town halls and start a tax the rich chant. See what happens when Dems actually do things they’ve been wrongfully accused of by Republican bullies. They’re getting blamed for it anyway. Why not do it? Make the chants deafening. Words matter.

Trump is calling for no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on Social Security and a longer term goal of no taxes on first $150 k of income.

Well, the actual protesters in the room who are MAGA know that they aren't.

Populism historically hates capitalists more than anyone, but establishment conservatives have used their influence and money and media to jump in front of populist movements to turn their anger against minorities, immigrants, and the government instead. It works for a while, but the populist anger toward capitalists is still there below the surface waiting for an Enron or an Elon to blow it open.

“Longer term goal” right.

All sound like fine ideas, however:

Almost no one reports tip income anyway, and this will also cause people who do pay taxes to really stop tipping. People will say, why give my after tax dollars to someone who won't pay taxes themselves?

No tax on OT means people will start working themselves to death to get OT, and employers, who already try to limit OT because it costs them, will limit it more by making everyone part time. Employers hate OT. This pattern is common.

Social Security: Democrats have been proposing this for years AND have proposed ways to pay for it. Republicans shut it down every time. So he'll have to get it past the Republican controlled Congress (but he has not proposed a way to pay for it). Also the average SS payment in the U.S. is $1,783.55/month. These people already do not owe taxes on Social Security. About half of Social Security beneficiaries paid no tax; about half pay tax on half of their benefits, with beneficiaries with higher incomes paying taxes on up to 85% of their benefits. This proposal helps about half of the higher earning SS recipients. So not taxing social security will be popular, but we'll see if Republicans pass a Democratic party platform idea, and if they pay for it.

On the $150 issue, I won't hold my breath on "longer term goals" used to buy votes, but never happen. Also, unless they find a way to pay for it that means taxing the very rich, this will mean the working upper middle class and the middle class in high COL areas get slammed again. Also, consider the form of government we will have if 76 percent of the population pays no federal income tax, plus the very wealthiest also not paying much if any.

it is getting so old that every single thread on DCUM is another hysterical complaint that Trump is ruining the country, destroying democracy, is a Nazi, and so forth it is so old and silly.

if you want to get serious, check out the thread that says the top two Democrat candidates according to a recent poll are AOC and Kamala Harris, and then another thread suggests Andrew Cuomo as a candidate.

Do you think any of these three could win a national election and are the best you can do?

if so, get ready for a third term for Trump or somebody like him.

Well MAGA is going to have to vote Trump/vance/musk out then ... because they want to privatize your social security benefits and give huge tax breaks to the billionaires who are supporting them.

This.
The tech bros thought they could use culture wars to distract from the fundamental inequity of their tax burden. That only works so long as it is in the abstract. Musk has made the cost very concrete and Americans are getting angry.
It’s only the beginning unless the GOP gets its collective head out of Trump’s behind soon.

I doubt it. Trump will probably give out the billionaire tax cuts and do something that increases the tax burden of the blue states disproportionately while handing out even more entitlements to the already subsidized red states.

Wrong post - we are talking about taxing the rich because every man woman and child in America wants it. Take your boogeyman nonsense somewhere else.
