The first weeks of tirzepatide were pretty horrible for me nausea-wise but still I never threw up.
I feel like you learn very quickly what you can and cannot eat. Also, if Zofran helps you now, no reason why it wouldn't continue to to work while on a GLP-1. |
I am a different poster, and have no issue with someone using loss drugs, but since when are healthy eating and portion control not in line with current science? |
Why aren’t you terrified of being 70lbs overweight? That’s very dangerous. |
Then don’t take them. No one is forcing you. |
They never have been. The truth is some people have a completely different food drive. And we are surrounded by unlimited cheap calories. Some people also eat out of boredom. The result of that is our current epidemic. |
I have had a lot of nausea and a feeling of food stuck in my throat, but zero vomiting (semaglutide). |
I have been on it for 2 years (low dose maintenance at this point) and never came close to vomiting. I would feel full quickly and I guess you have to know to stop eating when you are full, but that's kind of the point.
The positive health impacts have far outweighed any discomfort. |
I haven't had nausea on semaglutide (just stomach pain and occasional heartburn) but my provider is constantly asking if I need an anti-nausea prescription so I think it's easy enough to get those meds if it makes you feel sick. |
I've been on tirzepatide for more than a year and have lost almost 80 pounds.
I've never had nausea and certainly never come anywhere near vomiting. In the first week, and when increasing a dose, I sometimes I have some abdominal cramping followed by diarrhea. Never for more than a couple of hours, and never to a debilitating level. If I overeat (and "overeating" is now a very relative term) I can feel overly full and uncomfortable for a couple of hours. Again, no big deal and kind of a healthy retraining for my brain. Everyone reacts differently so it might be no big deal at all for you OP. Might be worth a try! |
OP here - thanks for all of the thoughtful and kind comments. Will talk to my doc and see if I can bring myself to give it a try. Appreciate all of the good info and advice! |
Why wouldn’t you just try losing weight through exercise and eating healthy? I can only imagine there are some side effects to those meds. This is not a judgement but I can’t really understand prople not bring able to lose weight unless they have a thyroid or other medical condition. Throw out the sugar, carbs and junk and the weight will come off.. |
OP here - I wish. I am post-menopausal and on thyroid meds. I seem to be to lose about 10lbs with dieting but it’s a slog and it stops. I am okay losing 1-2lbs a week but between menopause, SSRI, and arthritis (which limits exercise) I am discouraged. I don’t want to do a weight loss drug - I don’t know what else to do. I lost a total of 3lbs after six weeks with a personal trainer. It’s been so tough for so long. |
I don’t have this phobia and I truly do sympathize with you. It sounds terrible. However, I did take the medication and I kept the dose very low and never over ate, I exercised and ate very tiny meals and kept them all protein centered and never threw up once. I’ve never even been nauseous. You can easily take this medication and have almost no side effects. Please don’t worry about it so much. I started at 2.5 and very slowly moved up to three and then 3.5 and lost 40 pounds in four months. It’s the best that ever could have happened to me. |
Yeah, but you’re just supporting the same theory. It is calories and calories out and move your body. You’re just saying that some people have been genetically programmed to respond to the over abundance of ultra palatable and ultra processed food with a complete lack of self control and that’s what has made them fat. That’s the same thing and the science supports that. |
PP here. Diarrhea, stomach pain, constipation (bad enough to cause a couple of impactions, one that needed an enema), fatigue (this was the worst -- I almost went off it because of this, it took many months for it to lift), blurry vision, bad dreams, depression. It's been awful. But ... other than the fatigue, it isn't every day. I might have a gi side effect, say bad diarrhea and stomach pain, once every couple of weeks or so. Same with the constipation, although if I stay very on top of my water and fiber, I tend to be ok. The depression tends to be for about 48 hours after each shot and then lifts. The blurry vision was only after the first few shots. The bad dreams come and go. |
