No problems at St Andrews |
Agree - heard too many stories from friends there |
Same. When I read the title, NCS came to mind first. |
I have two girls in upper school at NCS and neither has encountered mean girls at any point. |
When will people realize this mean girl cliche is rooted in misogyny. Girls and boys both have social growing pains in their teen years when trying to find themselves and the group they click with. Some teen girls are jerks, same for teen boys. I have 2 girls.
I have spoke to many parents of girls regarding their school choice and social dynamics. There has only been 1 person who claims their school was overran with mean girls and that person had a daughter that was clearly the issue. |
I’ve always said my son’s friend group has more “queen bee” and “mean girls” types than my daughter’s. |
I don’t agree with the part about the mean girl dynamic being rooted in misogyny. I just think boys and girls develop differently and the hormones that flare up as a result of puberty impact social structures. This plays out very differently at all girls vs coed MS. DD did not have a great experience at SR MS but by US the issues from MS disapated. I think it has less to do with the place (school) than it does with the particular cocktail of hormones + personalities. Some classes will have less drama and others more. |
As a teacher I see this too. In the boy groups there is always an obvious “leader”. Sometimes this kid is a nice kid who the others look up too but often it’s a mean kid who the others are afraid to upset. I also see boys instigating a lot of drama that is seen as “girl drama”. |

I think if your daughter fits the mold there and has all the right socioeconomic clout to go with it, perhaps she won’t encounter any of the “mean girl” stuff. If there are any quirks, home issues or learning concerns, there could be some bumps in the road for her at NCS. Just my two cents |
+1 They tend to select a great cohort of kind, supportive girls. |
There are mean girls and boys everywhere. Don’t kid yourself. |
9th grade AHC. Great group of girls. |
What? No. |
Do you live in LALA land? Not only does Holy Child have mean girl clicks, some of the girls were kicked out of other schools psychological problems. No school is perfect. However Holy Child is not immune to mean girls |
