Best Private Social Clubs for tweens

Since you are a social climber wannabe I think you’d fit in at Washington Golf, and should join Junior League.

I grew up in DC area and went to a DC private. But I have no idea what OP is talking about. I must really be out of the loop.

Yes, but jokes on you because these aren’t the clubs of real movers and shakers.

Be all that you can be OP!

I feel like Loretta in Boise is researching her soon to be self-published ebook about a “social climbing high powered single mother of two” new to the DMV and navigating the seat of power. 🙄

Ok but have even one if you peasants ever set foot in a private club? OP asked for advice and is getting nothing but crap. Grow up

OP: university club, city tavern, and metropolitan are all very family friendly.

I’m a member of the Sulgrave club. Worth looking into. There are guest events throughout the year to give you a chance to meet members and see how you like the vibe.

I’ve been dragging OP (deservedly), 22:50 and if you must know I was married at the Washington Club (RIP) and grew up going to events at most of the clubs. Most of my friends from my DC private had wedding receptions at their parents’ clubs.

The kind of people who belong to these clubs — at least the kind of people others want to get to know — don’t brag about it and I’ll guarantee you that the vast majority of them don’t post to DCUM.

Way to represent the Sulgrave Club by calling people peasants. That is why no one with any money or class wants to join these striver clubs, just people like OP. Here is some advice for the original poster, put your kids in a private school if you want to meet people "that matter."
- member of local country club that never goes because it's lame and I hate strivers, but my husband likes to golf

Agreed. IMO the people OP is describing can smell strivers a mile away. This area is full of them and plenty of new people roll in with each change at the White House.

- also a local cc member who only goes for the holidays with a golfer DH and I made all my friends through my kids’ school

Looking for something a little more Jack and Jill, but not sure Jack and Jill is for us either as my girls aren’t into the debutante ball/cotillion thing.

We live in DC proper so would prefer to not have to venture all the way out to country club land, but if absolutely necessary we will.

Depends on how ugly your girls are.

I have 2 friends in Jack and Jill. Aside from the fact it costs a lot so weeds out “ the poors” I’m not sure how being a member helps you socially climb or gives you a leg up. The activities they do seem pretty generic, learn about civil rights icons, pack food for the homeless, see a football game, tween dance etc.
