William & Mary: R1 Research Institution

Anonymous
It seems like with the new Research Institution classification this readjusted some of the others.

They categorizations are accurate labels so far as this years' go, so I am fine with it.

The problem is with the status of grants being obliterated now and going forward, research will grind to a halt. Almost no progress will be made in the coming years if the despots in power have it their way. What a bunch of craven tools.

Pretty sure W&M gets basically none of the funding that is being cut. They were ranked like #188 on the list JHU was #1 on...

All the funding is in jeopardy. I work at a university far below W&M and my entire 500K grant is affected.

Anyone who thinks W&M should be in the same research category as JHU or Harvard is an idiot.

Evidence for change in standards?

How does the current R1 designation differ from past?
Research 1: Very High Spending and Doctorate Production is reserved for institutions that spend at least $50 million annually for research and award 70 or more research doctorates each year.

You think in 1 year, 40 institutions just miraculously raised their research spending to R1 status…?

DP but do you just not know? If you don't know just say that.

The PP asked a direct question and you answered with a stupid question (probably because you can't answer the actual question).

A direct question is now a targeted accusation with a snarky undertone? Woo, the biases here are insane.

Everyone needs to chill. Your kid at Michigan or UVA or whatever is still better than the kids at W&M or American. Ok? Is that what you wanted to hear?

I work at one of the new R1s. This was a years-long effort, hardly done in a single year. 🙄

Michigan actually has lower test scores than W&M and UVA which are tied in SAT scores and % submitting test scores.

Oh thank god, you confirmed what I expected: you cannot read either. Hope a literacy program passes by your way sometime! I'm supportive of your endeavors to improve your comprehension skills.

You sound like a complete fool. "Passes by your way"... Really? I'm not the one who needs to take an english class!

AS always, an insecure W&M poster. Of course, test scores are the way you believe what makes up an intelligent student body.

DP, but that is readable. You're commenting on a normal phrase.
