Thank you. Her special needs relate to mental health and obesity, and she has asked me for support and assistance with this part of the process. |
If her stomach is a bit upset, she likely needs to eat something. That's a new way to feel hunger that she's not used to.
I kept plenty of protein on hand: - individual cottage cheeses - I prefer Good Culture - Oikos triple zero vanilla yogurt, add in fresh strawberries or blueberries - Fairlife Protein shakes - vanilla and strawberry banana are my favorite, but if you like chocolate, it's good as well - Protein Oatmeal - Better Oats Steel Cut Then simply had a nice lunch or dinner. I just ate FAR less than normal. I wanted lean protein and vegetables, rather than craving carbs, sweets or wine. Drink plenty of water, and if I needed something different I have seltzer water. Ginger chews and peppermints are other nice to have items that will calm any feelings of upset stomach or sour mouth. |
Have lots of prepared small meals like cooked shredded chicken, fixings for a salad, lots of fresh veggies and fruit. Sliced healthy deli meat like turkey and chicken. High protein tortillas like Mission Carb balance. The basic schedule is like having an egg white omelette that’s around 30 g of protein, then about three hours later have a protein shake, then about three hours later for a salad with about 30 g of protein worth of chicken, then maybe in the afternoon she can have a bowl of fruit, then for dinner if you can get her to eat it, maybe one of the carb balance quesadillas with sliced deli meat and low fat cheese Everything small and centered around the 30 g of protein . |
There isnt a special diet that will minimize side effects. She will either have side effects or not. Wegovy will simply help her with portion control and seeking out food for other reasons besides comfort. Provide and cook heathy and balanced means and snacks. You likely know what that should look like. |
If she did, she would not need the medication. Nothing is new, eat healthy and stay active. |
I'm on wegovy. She should eat protein and vegetables. Those items will prevent nausea and diarrhea. |
Irrelevant to the topic |
Right, but OP knows what a heathy diet should be. Most people do. They just can’t implement it and/or control portions. |
I’d say grilled or rotisserie chicken, vegetables, cereal, yogurt. The most important thing imo is to just not overeat at a meal. |
Thank you to everyone who provided suggestions - really appreciate it. |
Not said yet but fiber and lots of it. The medication slows down the intestinal processing. You need to get some bulk + lots of water to keep things moving. I usually have either fiber one cereal or oatmeal with prunes for breakfast. A cup of Metamucil mid-afternoon is a good pre-dinner prep.
For protein shakes, look for ones with 30g protein. I like Premier Protein. That’s usually my lunch because I’m in the go midday and will forget to sit down and eat otherwise. Add nuts to the snack list. Almonds or cashews are a good choice - high density protein boost. |
I’ve been on a glp1 med for over a year.
The keys are: 1) drinking plenty of water. She won’t be as thirsty as usual, which can cause dehydration Also these drugs can cause constipation, so you need to have tons of water to help combat that. Some people find that no calorie water flavors help a lot. 2) plenty of protein to mitigate against muscle loss while you lose weight. For me that has meant making Greek yogurt my default breakfast. And having something like a few ounces of deli chicken as my lunch. 3) at the first sign of constipation, add daily miralax to your routine. 4) I was never full before this medicine, so it was a real routine change to get full and to learn my new portion sizes. Start with much smaller portions than seems reasonable. |
She may not even have side effects! I would say though definitely focus on hydration. Have some saltines. No biggie. |
Protein first. Yogurt and deli meats if she can’t handle a full meal. Then fiber. Keep some miralax on hand as constipation is almost a given. |
I have been on for 8 months, don't eat differently, just less. I do a low carb diet on purpose, so no white rice, white pasta, etc. I will eat a plain sweet potato or quinoa. Breakfast is yogurt with berries, lunch is a green salad with protein (usually diced grilled chicken that I cook on Sunday for the week), and dinner is protein and steamed veggies. If I ever am hungry later, which is rare, I have air popped popcorn with everything but the bagel sprinkled on. |
