Who is applying early to both MIT and Yale except the trophy hunters? |
| DD school counselor requested students who get in REA not apply to additional schools as it is ‘unethical’. That being said her friend who got into a HYPSM will apply to the remaining top schools but has not disclosed this to most of her classmates as it will be frowned upon. (Cost not an issue bc they are going in as low income but truthfully her father hides assets in Asia. So many wrongs here). |
| At our well-known west coast private, students admitted early to elite REA/SCEA schools are required to withdraw their applications to other schools. Students sign a contract beforehand agreeing to this condition. |
Hope this is a private counselor and not the school counselor giving this encouragement…. |
No, it is obnoxious when you have the “golden ticket” in hand and are “seriously considering” trying to take one of your classmates’ golden tickets. |
It's extremely obnoxious, narcissistic, and borderline unethical. Students who apply to these schools should treat them as ED schools, i.e. way the merits of each school, make whatever decision you're going to make, and accept the outcome, be it good or bad. All of these schools will meet whatever FA is needed. There is no reason to "deliberate" further. Counseling depts want to get the best possible outcomes for the highest number of students. Having one kid admitted to 3 T5 schools prevents/undermines that. |
| It's never done by kids who are well integrated into the class because those kids feel a true sense of allegiance to their community and don't want to do this to their friends. It's always a loner who doesn't give a crap about their peers. Such an interesting dynamic. I've seen it happen multiple times in the 3 times I've had seniors. |
+2 It is the narcissistic kids, not the nice ones. It is strongly discouraged by our school, and if the kids insist the CCO will call the parents in for a meeting. These kids are horrible. |
yes, admitted to Stanford. Didn’t apply anywhere else after finding out. He had already applied to Oxford and Science Po. |
Wow you people are nuts. Guide your students through this process as best you can. If they can figure it all out early and they get in somewhere that's fantastic. If that schedule is not for them and they change their mind after early action then obviously keep that to yourself. Keep it all to yourself. It's really no one else's business. |
| Well...two kids at our high school applied full set of 20 colleges after getting into SCEA to T5. |
You’ve clearly never applied for FA. |
Public or private high school? I can’t imagine a private school CCO allowing it. |
| No, he pulled all but one of his other applications after being admitted SCEA. There was only one other school that would give him pause in his final decision, and that's the only one that he left for spring admissions. |
+1. These people must just apply to any school they want with no consideration for cost. DC was not permitted to apply to any ED schools even though the top choice school only had ED not EA. Chose a T5 school with EA for an early application and was admitted, but was still interested in the original top choice and applied. |
