| And if so, did they get pushback from their classmates and/or school counselors (particularly if in private)? DC applied to 2 others, not to be obnoxious as some people appear to presume but because they are seriously considering these schools. |
| If you didn't ED, you can apply to as many schools as you like. It's a big decision, fine to want to have a range of options to consider. |
| My daughter’s boyfriend was accepted to Stanford and also applied to Princeton, MIT and some dual degree program at Penn. No pushback, it’s normal at our school. |
Why would you overshare with information about an early acceptance that you weren't necessarily going to take and then complain about confusion and pushback but you're not going to take it. Suit yourself but if you had just kept that information to yourself you would not be having this problem at all. |
You are missing the point of OP's post. OP, yes certain people especially at private schools are going to think you and your kid are d**ks. In theory, certain schools only accept say 3 kids from private school X and your kid is already one of those three at Princeton and now they perceive your kid as sucking up additional slots elsewhere. That's life. |

Usually when admitted to one of the T5, kids apply to the rest of HYPSM.
Weirdly one kid at our school also applied to Michigan. Don't know why - think kid wants to go to Michigan and parents want HYPSM. |
| SCEA to Princeton. Didn’t apply elsewhere. Counselor encouraged a Harvard app (my kid didn’t want harvard but also did think it wouldn’t be cool). I was neutral. 1 or 2 other apps… I think that’s fine if you’re seriously unsure. |

School limits successful SCEAs to one or two more. Gate keeping is enforced by controlling release of school materials at regular deadline. It is considered bad form bc takes potential slots from classmates. |
| Yes applied to a few more as we had never visited HYP and were pleasantly surprised by the admit. Still considering other schools. |
Getting into one of HYPSM SCEA and then applying to the rest for sh#ts and giggles is the definition of a d#ck move. The better private schools discourage trophy hunting since it harms everyone else in the class. Not sure what private school this is, but I'd suggest keeping this move under wraps. The other families will despise you. |
I tried to keep everything under wraps, but DC felt pressured to answer honestly when people asked “Are you applying to X?” and then later “Did you get into X?” And there’s certainly no way of keeping that information from DC’s counselor. |
| Unless they are super rich, yes, most of the kids I know who got in SCEA applied widely to multiple T10 (and beyond) schools and shopped around. |
But what if it's not trophy hunting? |
| DD’s friend got in Yale SCEA, kept their UVA application, and applied only to Brown RD. |
Maybe the parents thought the M stood for Michigan
