Does anyone actually like Tres Leches Cake?

Not a fan, but I don't like any bread pudding.

I very much enjoy tres leches cake, but I also enjoy other syrup soaked cakes like greek ravani, samali (I think Egyptians call it babsbousa), and karydopita. It's OK if it is not your thing, but plenty of people like tres leches.

Only when it's moist, not soggy.

So delicious when it is not too sweet and perfectly made. I just discovered a great version at a Hispanic bakery nearby. Too bad for my waistline!

It was a good one. It’s just there is nothing appealing about “soggy in a good way.” It makes me want to gag. And the flavor is just…sugar.

Maybe you just have bad taste? Are you a generally picky or unadventurous eater? Not everyone can appreciate a Picasso.

Oh come on. We all have different preferences in taste and texture.

PP saying and explaining why she doesn't like it is not an insult to those who do. My DH can describe exactly why a tomato makes him gag, my SIL can illustrate what happens to her mouth when a spicy pepper hits her lips. Their experience is legitimate and not an insult to tomato and pepper lovers.

Sure, but the way OP has dismissed a comment suggesting it may not have been a good version of the cake, when this was OP's first and ONLY experience with tres leches cake, and she has no way of even knowing if it was a good one or not, suggests that she's a remarkable uncurious and rigid person. She doesnt seem open to new experiences or guidance, let alone new flavors. It almost suggests a childlike mentality, like a toddler who screams and cries when mommy tries to give them veggie ravioli. The rigidity and self assurance that she knows everything about tres leches cake because of one bad experience is fairly bizarre

OP, tell us what you do like so that someone can tell you why they don’t like it, and perhaps you will see that there are many different tastes. I detest Starbucks drinks, mashed potatoes, sour cream, and mayonnaise, but I don’t assail people and wonder if anyone actually likes those things. Obviously, they are wildly popular, so I conclude that I have different tastes. Not a big deal. Open your mind a little.

I generally really love cake but I do not like this type of cake.

Anonymous wrote:Was just at a lunch event catered by a higher end Mexican restaurant. The dessert was Tres Leches Cake. Possibly my first time ever having it after always seeing it on menus.

I’m not at all narrow minded food-wise but it was so gross. What do people like about it? It has the texture of wet bread or a wet sponge. Super cold. No real distinct flavor aside from tons of sugar.

Honestly, I’d rather just have a boring piece of vanilla cake. Turning it into an overly sweet sponge ruins it.

I'm with you!

So gross!!! I'm Hispanic and my friends live it while I think it's the most disgusting dessert. I'd rather have nothing or anything else. The only "treats" worse are the ones with tamarind that all the Mexicans love. So gross! Oh, and I can't stand the Dutch drop either.

1,200 calories of soggy bread with whipped cream on top. Yummy!

Same...I don't like tiramisu or trifle either.

it’s so good when it’s made correctly. Maybe I love it because I despise dry crumbly cake in general. If you actually had a good one-it would taste like cinnamon and similar to the taste of rice pudding in cake form.

Also i’m not understanding how someone mentioned you might have had a bad one and you said “no it was a good one, I just hate it?” how would you know? it makes absolutely no sense how you said it was your first time trying it but then defending your stance that you know it was a “good one”.

Ugh. I used to love it but then a coworker had us over for an housewarming and was pushing his tres leches cake on us from the moment we entered. Everyone raves about what an amazing chef he was- slow smokes his own pork shoulder in a Green Egg! Brews his own beer! Cultivates his own tomatoes! At the housewarming I see his cats and dogs on the counter *licking* the tres leches they are serving. I have cats and dogs and love them but ewwwww. It totally ruined it for me.

+1. Listen, OP had a tres leche once and posted here to see whether anyone could possibly like this dessert which is quite popular. Then she called it gross. Frankly, I think PP was pretty darn gentle. Of course we all have different preferences but if you could on here to be rude, you might get a little gentle pushback.

NoI can't stand it. I had co-workers who used to bring it in for parties. It was expensive bakery cake and would look good but I did not like it. I find it overly sweet and of course, soggy!

I love it!
