How is federal employee's Severance Pay calculated (not RIFed yet, just a question)?

Anonymous
You can find your specific calculation on employee express. Can’t remember the specific link but click around. Mine was…uninspiring.

You’re not getting RIFed, OP. It’s too expensive. You might get fired. But you won’t get RIFed.

Explain why.

I don't understand how the age adjustment works.

"In addition, an age adjustment allowance of 2.5 percent is added for each full quarter of a year you are over 40 years of age"

If I'm 50, and have worked for 10 years, does that mean that my basic severance is 10 weeks, then the age adjustment adds another 10 weeks?

There is also severance pay for firing people, correct?

Who knows if this administration will follow the law, but employees should receive severance if they decline reassignment outside their geographic region.

That is not what happened for ERS when they moved it to Kansas City.

I know they were offered voluntary buyouts, but most should have been eligible for severance if they turned those buyouts down.

A RIF is a formal process with very strict requirements for how it's run. You can read the rules on OPM's website. It's not "this office does something we no longer prioritize so we want to get rid of the office." That's not a RIF. To get rid of most of us, they will force Schedule F through and then just fire us at will. That's the whole point of Schedule F. And no, they will not owe us severance pay for firing us.

That's not true. Severance was a part of the package. Along with ab ictap ctap letter.

I am not laid off yet, but would like to make a plan if I am RIFed. Job market is bad, not sure if I can find a job with similar paycheck, or how long will it take to get a job. I may need to be Uber Eat delivery for some time before find another job.

I am concerned about income source if suddenly laid off, since there are bills (mortgage, auto loan, etc).

Don't you have substantial savings after 15 years of work? If you lived pay to pay check with that long of steady employment, that's your own financial irresponsible choice.

No, GS1500 series family (STEM major). But worry about reorganization or whatever reason, I am tired of drama.

why you started panicking for no reason? Chill, OP, and let the trouble come to you and don't go and find trouble.

Op wants to stir the pot.

Jeez you sound like an ass and probably are one. Plenty of us have money saved up and have never bothered looking up severance pay. Hope you have nice short life.

They had voluntary buyouts for those near retirement but that is all. There was no severance package for refusing to relocate.

What is the major difference between buyout and severance package? Which is better?

A buyout is probably $25k. Severance is like 6-12 months salary.
