What happened? We had a B meet with them and they were lamenting having to move up, but they are really down to earth people. Maybe they just don’t fit in with the McLean elite? (Probably a good thing) |
Ironically, the McLean parents were welcoming! OKM parent were pompous, wore MAGA tshirts, and tried to tell everyone how much better things had been in their prior division. |
They did not wear MAGA shirts. Please stop with the lies. |
| I worked at the data table at our OKM meet and thought their people were kind and welcoming. I don't think their pool would work for ASR, though. |
Why the hate for OKM? Unless you’re anti-military. |
|
McLean Swim and Tennis could potentially work. Right next to McLean High School but not a ton of deck space.
If you saw the footprint of most of the D1 pools you would understand why they don’t host. Of all of them “maybe” Overlee could work if you put all the team tents in their parking lot but then everyone else would be hunting for street parking |
| Little Hunting Park? They seem to have a good amount of space. |
Did you attend every one of their meets? Monitor every parent? I guarantee you did not. I saw it with my own two eyes. |
DP The entire team agreed to wear MAGA shirts instead of team wear? |
All I know is they did not feel they had the depth to move up and enjoyed having more parity of competition in D2. The “MAGA” shirts, puh-lease. They had an eagle on the back of their 2023 championship tshirts. Y’all are nuts. And half (or more) of the team parents are military at OKM, so it’s not surprising. |
They strike me as being very “Fake” nice; they did not handle the move up to D1 very well and the loses that came with it….they were SHOCKED to get smoked by Chesterbrook |
You're out yourself as Chesterbrook parent. What a jerk! I have no dog in the fight, but I doubt OKM was shocked by loss to Chesterbrook. Looking at previous year's times, they knew they had quality but not quantity to compete with D1 teams. |
| No one here volunteering their pool, I see. |
How much are you interacting with parents from the other team at a meet that you are assessing whether they are “fake” nice, shocked to get smoked by another team, or any of this other ridiculousness? Every year these threads out NVSL parents as the ones that give swim parents a bad name. |
OKM parent here. I cannot speak for anyone other than myself, but I will say many parents and I had conversations sharing that — while we are honored for the acknowledgment — we were disappointed with moving up. In fact, during an A meet with our friends from Crosspointe in 2023, many of us from both OKM and Crosspointe joked that we should draw straws on who had to move up. Team leaders even tried to encourage NVSL not to move us up. We talked to our friends at McLean (whose coach previously coached OKM), and they shared our sentiment. Our friends from Langley - same. I assure you, we were not shocked about losing to CB. If we’re honest, nobody wants to compete against Tuckahoe, Chesterbrook, and Overlee. We all recognize the depth of talent those teams have. So if OKM parents shared their disappointment with moving up, I assure you it’s not because we had any personal grudges against D1 teams; it’s simply that no other team outside of those big 3 will win an A meet against them. And we are nice because that’s how people should act in competition, especially when hosting another team. Highlands and Donaldson Run were incredibly welcoming, and Overlee and Tuckahoe were very kind when they came to our pool. |
