Waaaaaay higher for CS. I know some with 1500 SAT get rejected for CS.

I think the 50% is something like 1460 for undeclared even these days

Not way higher. Just more random.

No, it's way higher. They halved the program last year. They will now only admit 100 transfers from both internal and external, and 600 direct admit.

Two years ago, they admitted a lot more so it was a bit more random. Now they are culling the program of weak students. My DC is a junior taking high level CS classes (and math), and the weaker students are struggling big time. UMD wouldn't want to put their rep on the line by admitted students who can't keep up.

UMD INCREASED the number of direct admits from 450 to 600.
Nearly eliminating transfers has nothing to do with firstyear admissions standards.

Yes, I know. But, it's way more competitive now, so you need pretty high stats.

50% of UMD enrollees don't even submit scores!

The 50%ile of admitted test scores is about the 75%ile of students overall.

The required GPA and SAT for UMD are really depends on majors. Those Limited involved majors require much higher GPA and SAT.

DD is 4.7 GPA with 13 APs and told 50/50 she would get in.

Who told her that? Naviance shows mostly green for my MCPS kid with a 4.7, fewer APs, and TO.

45% admitted, 21% yield. as undesirable as ever. Does any other state flapship have such bad yield?

It’s an interesting situation where they admit the highest scorers who rarely want to go there and generally have much better options. Then they deny those right below (4.0 students with 5 AP’s for example) who would actually attend. I wish there was ED to show demonstrated interest.
