Ellington isn't unique. Other counties have Arts high schools |
Realistically, as long as 1 parent rents IB for a chosen school, changes residency status and is able to provide the needed paperwork, does it matter if you are sleeping there every night? This is provided you don't sublet but I would think you are legally inbounds if you do that. Probably more expensive than paying for out of state tuition but it would give you more options. |
WRong. |
MCPS does not. |
But PG also has a decent number of private schools, including less expensive parochial schools, that would charge about the same in tuition as attending a DCPS from outside the district. Why wouldn't you just do that? Other than Ellington which as an audition process and a unique offering, I can't think of a school in DC that it would be possible to get a lottery spot at and that would be worth the tuition. You could pay the same and go to a perfectly acceptable charter closer to where you live. |
How so? If you are legally renting in bounds. Lease, car registration, utilities etc and no one else can claim that address except for you how would that not be considered your residence? I am pretty sure it would be. |
You're wrong. If you're not sleeping there, it's not your residence. If you're asking if you'll get caught, that's a different question, but if that's not your residence, ie where you AND THE CHILD (unless you're divorced and one parent lives in DC) *sleep*, you're committing residency fraud. |
Did I say they did? PP said Ellington is unique. It isn't. |
Yes but that doesn’t sound like OP, who seems to not have info about DCPS high schools |
Go to My School DC and create an account: https://www.myschooldc.org/ Enter the child's information Put the schools you are interested in enrolling in in ranked order. Note - some charter high schools do not accept students after 9th grade Here is another link to find out what schools (both charter and DCPS) have 10th grade: https://find.myschooldc.org/?selGrades=10 What happens is DC residents are given priority in the lottery. After DC residents fill the seats, if there are open seats, you can enroll and pay tuition. |
What are they? Literally, have never heard of a MoCo or NoVA dedicated arts HS like Ellington. |
It's pretty unlikely at the application schools...maybe McKinley tech. You can look at the my school dc website for data on admission for 10th grade. And there have to be no DC students on the wait list before you can pay tuition. Ellington has some sort of exemption from this so is the best bet if your kid is artsy. For dcps non magnet schools, again there would have to be no wait-list and that seems unlikely at macarthur or Jackson Reed. Not sure how it works at charters. |
PG, Anne Arundel, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Washington County. Probably others but those are the ones I know of. |
Show the rules that say the *child* has to sleep there. They don’t. |
What are the schools? Those are counties. I doubt any are considered equal to Ellington for kids that may want to work professionally direct from HS. |
