Va official thinks md won’t fix the beltway

You fix the Beltway by making it possible for people to get where they're going without being forced to sit in a car on a highway at the same time as lots of other people sitting in cars on a highway.

You "fix" the Beltway by spending a kajillion dollars so that even more people are forced to sit in a car on an even bigger highway at the same time as even more other people sitting in cars on an even bigger highway.

You live in a grim world where everything is terrible and you are unable to imagine the possibility of changing anything for the better.

Omg seriously yes. Avoid if at all possible.

Honestly! Do people think that the beltway moves faster in VA? It’s faster to cut through DC than it is to use the beltway in VA. The perpetual construction gas been a nightmare for years. Why would anyone try to brag about that?

There is no construction on the beltway. Especially not perpetual construction. And yes, the express lanes make things much faster on that stretch of beltway in VA.

Amazon isn't working out as promised, the sports teams abandoned them, commercial office vacancies are the highest in the region -- so when all else fails, they've gone to Plan B of blaming Maryland.

I bet those numbers are even worse for Montgomery County.

There was last week.

Maybe the express lanes make it faster for everyone willing to pay to drive in the express lanes, but for everyone else, congestion is just as bad or worse. It has to be just as bad or worse, because otherwise nobody would be willing to pay to drive in the express lanes, and then Transurban wouldn't turn a profit.

There has been perpetual construction as you go from Tysons to the American Legion bridge. It's a total mess.

It's really all about people. We have too many people.

It’s not “perpetual”. Transurban is expanding the HOT lanes to the ALB. It will be done in 12 months. And once it’s finished it will push the entirety of the beltway traffic jam into Maryland.

Virginia will have free flowing traffic. Maryland will then have perpetual traffic jams. Traffic jams are bad for business, which will only further accelerate job losses.

Virginia will have no traffic jams in Transurban's pay-lots-to-avoid-traffic-jams lanes, and traffic jams in the regular-people lanes. Traffic jams are great for Transurban's business, certainly.

What we have is too many cars. Or, if you prefer, too many people who are going places in cars, all at the same time.

There are enough road bridges, but light rail between Bethesda and Tyson’s is well overdue.
