There is very little wiggle room on MSRP, but you might negotiate on trim level and add-ons or the warranty / service plan. You may be able to get some extras for the price you pay, but you likely won’t pay less. If you want to try your luck, look at inventory online and go at the end of the month and be willing to buy a car they have on the lot. Act like it’s not quite what you want and you plan to go see another one at a different dealer. Have your number ready for “what would it take to get you to drive this home”. It should be a slight stretch that is reasonable enough they know you are serious, but give them a little room to counter you. Never talk about monthly amounts or amounts that involve your trade in. Just X total or Trade in +$X. You want to only negotiate 1 number.
If you have a trade in, that is what you can negotiate. I recently bought a 2yr old used car with cash in the same price range and I got them to come down $1k on the vehicle and up $500 on my trade-in. My friend loves to negotiate cars and buys/ sells collectible cars. He coached me for my purchase and based on inventory, he thought $2500 was the maximum I’d be able to get, so I thought it went well. |

OP, because you want something rare and specific, you have less bargaining power.
Be discreet in how you talk. You could ask for their "internet salesperson" and say you'd like an estimate before coming to check out the car. There's some chance a local dealer could secure the car for you and you could do the transaction locally. If they felt motivated. Sonetimes we pay extra to get what we want exactly when we want it. Be sure you know before you go how to get it properly titled and taxed in your home state. |

Thank you all so much for the comments/suggestions. Really appreciate it!

Most power to negotiate price comes from how quickly they’re selling that particular model. Try to find the “days of supply” metric for the vehicle you’re interested in. If it’s high, you have a lot more bargaining power. Since this is a new car there’s probably not much of a discount. Edmunds suggests you should pay about 1500 less than MSRP. https://www.edmunds.com/kia/carnival-hybrid/ |
| We were offered below msrp as a starting point by salesman on a 2025 Odyssey. We tried to go even lower but all we could get was a couple hundred, a little more for the trade in, and nicer floor mats. |
$50k for a KIA??? Why not get Hybrid Sienna, which looks to be cheaper. |
Oh I see why people want this. It’s a Minivan styled like an SUV. |
You can complete the transaction electronically before you head out to pick the car up. It'd be foolish to drive that far without knowing the price the dealer wants, and once you're there and the dealer knows how far you have come there's a good chance the dealer will ask for top dollar, knowing you won't want to have wasted your trip. Ask for the dealer's best price, including all fees, and if it's satisfactory provide a down payment on a credit card to close the deal, paying the balance when you take delivery. If you need financing, arrange that on your own once you know the vehicle price and VIN. Do this with multiple dealers (I contacted 13, in three states, when I bought my last car - there were wide variations in what each dealer would sell the car for). Know, too, that if you're inflexible with respect to brand, model, color, and trim level you'll have a harder time getting a good deal unless ytou're looking at a relatively unpopular product. Supply and demand dictate that when supply is limited, and demand is high, prices are high. |

We got our Honda CRV for 10% off MSRP, though we still had things like destination, charge, and taxes so out the door was higher than MSRP. I haven’t bought many cars. Is it usually possible in the past to get a discount such that you would pay out the door less than MSRP or is it just some discount off that first line item?
I have not been able to get rid of the dealer charge that seems to stick no matter what you do. |

Kia gets absurd pricing for their cars. You may also want to check out the side impact testing on Carnival. Not good.
We got $5500 off MSRP on a 2025 Odyssey Elite, making it $47k before taxes. |
| The best we were able to get was MSRP and 6 months of free Sirius. |
So why does an Odyssey get IIHS top pick but not Carnival, they definitely both have some red test results? The odyssey looks like a vacuum cleaner minivan; the carnival has the SUV look. Interestingly, both are name checked in Deadpool & Wolverine… |
Carnival is an MPV https://www.tiktok.com/@mclotcm/video/7396099844311485738?lang=en |
Because the Odysseys doesn’t have seats detach in a crash: https://www.iihs.org/news/detail/kia-modifies-carnival-to-prevent-rear-seat-detachment-uncovered-in-iihs-test |
| I just got $2700 off of MSRP on a new Honda CRV |
