If you're prioritizing protein and fat, you're probably not eating enough fiber. There is nothing at all wrong with fruits and vegetables that are high in "Carbs" but are wholesome, and filled with fiber, vitamins, and water.

The CGM doesn’t monitor fructose, which is the most poisonous.
Also, you could be a TOFI (thin outside, fat inside), meaning you could have fatty liver. Ask your doc to order the hepatic and lipid panel. |
Ummm, no, you don’t need a constant finger stick. The Libre is a CGM, CONTINUOUS Glucose Monitor. Sometimes you may need to do a finger stick to confirm, the Libre has a symbol to direct you when this is needed. If you don’t want to do a CGM, you should try checking several times a day and keeping a log. Before breakfast would give your over night fasting number. Then check before and 2 hours after meals. This will give you a pretty good idea of what is going on. |
Yes I forgot to mention that I also ate during an eight hour window every day for those three months and continue to do so. Dr. ran a lipid panel but I can ask about liver function in January. When I say I prioritized protein and fat I just meant that I consciously increased my protein and worried less about fat. I ate lots and lots of fruits and vegetables plus whole grains in moderation. I’m guessing my macros were roughly 1/3 1/3 1/3.
Yes, I am of north European descent on one side and Carpathian Russian on the other. I can’t believe I’m getting diabetes after living a healthy life but I don’t think this is lifestyle related. Appreciate all of the suggestions. I’m having some side effects from the metformin. So right now I’m focused on getting used to that and then I think I might look at blood sugar testing. This Halloween, I had exactly one fun size candy bar after a healthy meal and followed with weight training session. I am taking this very seriously but it’s not moving the needle. |

This was a case study of three people. Not super clear evidence. I think biology is variable and different diets likely work well for different people. A CGM may be in my future but I’m nervous about freaking out rather than just continuing to eat healthy. |

You have to absolutely remove carbohydrates from your diet if you want your A1C to come down. Stop listening to the fiber nuts on here. Carbs are the problem for someone with your condition. If you have a cgm you only need a finger prick meter to calibrate the cgm. Type 1 |
You probably have type 1 late onset. Ask for the c peptide panel and autoimmune panel. |
I’m sorry. Have you experimented with small doses of semaglutide and using a continuous glucose monitor? It might be worth experimenting. |
