Would husband's ex know we have embryos stored?

Anonymous
Op here. I will just assume/figure she knows (it does bother me), but I think there is no way to prove it isn't more than just a coincidence (also bothers me).

That would be inconceivable.

This women violated a medical privacy law and workplace confidentiality agreement. Your husband needs to tell her that he'll report her to her boss. She could be fired for talking about the clients.

How so? Genuinly asking. If she came upon this information during her regular duites and just recognized their names, she didn't violate anything.

DP. If she then told people about what she found it would violate the law.

Unless the company can show that the ex pulled up OP's records (for any reason) and OP can prove she told people, then Ex can be fired.

It might be enough to threaten. Your employee, who is DH's ex, is telling people that we have test tube babies. There is no other way she could have learned this other than having seen our records and then told people.

It looks bad for the agency that has the frozen embryos.

But today I found out where she works and I looked it up to find out in what capacity and now I'm less sure about coincidence. But, no way to really know.

Is it an EMR? All those systems have login credentials and you could tell if she viewed your account. You can submit a request saying you think your privacy was invaded based on her comment. 90% chance you will be blown off the first pass and you will have to keep checking

Op here. I'm not sure. She's at SGF

If she processes bills and you pay in your real name, duh.
But she can't tell anyone.
Snarking to you likely is not HIPPA violation but could get her fired "client confidence in professionalism of company."
Be glad she doesn't do freezer maintenance?

It bothers you, I get it.

However, it seems she must work in an office where her ex-husband's embryos are stored. That's just as weird, only in mirror image.

And the paperwork probably crossed her desk without her first going to look for it or a work friend mentioned her ex was on site.

Have your DH decide how to handle.

I did IVF and around the same time, I started noticing clinic medical staff on my "who viewed your profile" page.

Total ignoramus here, but is it possible to move one’s embryos to another facility? I wouldn’t like the idea of them being at a place where this woman worked.

Isn't it likely your ex shared? Like oh I work at sgf, ah yea we spent a lot of time there for ivf...

I can't imagine how he wouldn't share that?

As long as it does not involve husbands sperm not a big deal. If it does he needs to talk to her.

OP doesn't know that.

Does ex have kids? If not or even if do is just jealousy- ignore. You have already spent more time on this than she has. Use that time for your kids.

The hipaa laws would prevent her from discussing this information with others, but it seems unlikely that there are internal protections to prevent her from viewing clients’s financial records since that would be part of her job. If you are being billed regularly for embryo storage then she probably has access to those records.

I’d agree with this. Unless her job is outside the regular billing process (like an HR support role for the billing department), she likely has access to all accounts and what you see on your bill is what she sees in the system. A billing person wouldn’t see doctors notes or diagnoses, but would see the medical codes and descriptions for test, services and fees.
