I think it's a little tone deaf to assume that everyone will be in mourning tomorrow. I don't condone the savagery in any way, honestly, I don't even blame Israel for responding. We are immigrants and it's kind of alienating to assume that this event has the same meaning to all of us. I mean, are there similar messages on the anniversaries of earthquakes and tsunamis?

It could be appropriate if ALL events were acknowledged but they aren't. Why do schools send messages for select events?

It would not at all be appropriate.

You’re ridiculous.

is there talk of planned protests/disruptions ?

MCPS should say nothing. They should remind school based staff that there may be staff/students/families who may have feelings about the day or be absent and how best to work with them and express empathy. Beyond that the system as a whole doesn't need to say anything.

If there is some class that usually discuss Current Events/topics in the news then it's fine. If a student raises their hand to discuss or ask about it fine. But the system does not need to go out of its ways to acknowledge or discuss this.

I don’t think it is appropriate at all for MCPS to comment on geopolitics.

What happen on Oct 7? I must miss something.

Ha!

My child's college has announced they will no longer put out statements relating to politics.

At Pyle, counselors sent a note. See link below.
Why? please PARENTS take YOUR kid to see a therapist if they are affected by this anniversary. Of course if a student said something inappropriate to another student related to today's anniversary, counselors should talk to the students as they would for any incident that was inappropriate.

There was graffiti this morning on a walking path leading to Lakewood elementary.

Seems like a good policy to stay out of things that aren't specific to MoCo let alone MD or the USA.

A terror attack in another country that had far-reaching and tragic implications.

Flags were at half staff in TX today to mark the anniversary. Why?? Trying to understand the varied responses across the country. Were flags at MCPS also today?

So not the same thing, what an asinine comparison to make, showing your true colors on the subject. Prayers for the people of Israel.

Idiot. Turn on the news at the very least.

I have kids at two different MCPS high schools. Each of their principals made an announcement acknowledging the anniversary. One principal encouraged students to check in with their friends who have loved ones living in that region who are affected, as the friends may be struggling with the anniversary.
