What happened at Pyle today?

Got an email

“ Dear Pyle Families,

We know today might be a hard one for many of our students. The counseling department would welcome any students who might need to talk or take a break today. We will be making an announcement to students this morning to let them know that they can access the counseling office at any point today.

Thank you,

The Pyle Counselors”

I assume a death but this make it hard to talk to one’s kids when the kids have more information than the parents.

It's Oct 7th, OP. Maybe try to be a little more aware of world events and the fact that our area has a lot of Jews.

That was a year ago and halfway around the world. Why would they need counseling?

PP was being a brat, but it's like Sept 11. A lot of people are very dramatic about it and try to drag everyone else into the drama.

Because there are Jewish MCPS families who might have been directly or indirectly impacted by the event. Just like shortly after 9/11, we put out remarks on the 1-year anniversary of that tragedy.

What is a school counselor going to do to help?

Schools treat school counselors like aspirin they can give to a kid to cure their problems.

*I* am being a brat? I am pro-Palestinian and believe in a 2 state solution. But even I can be sensitive to the nightmare that was Oct 7th. Half my street is Jewish. Only a navel-gazing ignoramus calls this drama. Hoist yourself to a minimum of societal awareness and decorum, please.

My friend's nephew died on Oct 7th. He was a few days away from leaving his stint in the armed forces. Do you understand that Jewish families here have relatives in Israel? Are you aware that this area has a lot of American Jews?

Whatever you may think about the Israel's right to exist, or its response to attacks from its neighbors, surely you must acknowledge that the world is a small place, and we are all interconnected. The links are particularly tight between Israel and the US, given the significant diaspora of Jews in America, and their influence on every sphere of American life. That's just a fact. You don't need to like it, but you need to accept that what happens in Israel will always resonate here in the US.

I am not Jewish or Israeli, and certainly not a fan of Israeli actions taken recently, but at least I have a modicum of understanding of this situation.
