Teacher shortage. But anyone can be a teacher? Sad. |
Really?! Well that is certainly news to me! Is this the MCEA’s official stance as well? |
It's news to you that a lot of teachers drink? You must not know many teachers. I have no idea what MCEA says. I'm not a teacher or affiliated with the union. |
Drinking and racking up DUIs are two different things. Responsible adults drink at the right time and right place without getting a DUI. Irresponsible adults who drink and drive risk their life and the lives of others. Your claim that most teachers have DUIs is indeed news to me, since I did not assume most teachers would engage in that kind of reckless and dangerous behavior. |
You might want to consult a teacher about the difference between "most" and "plenty." |
And you might want to consult a teacher about substantiating baseless claims. How many MCPS teachers have DUIs? I bet you have no clue and yet you made your claim regardless. |
Not really. It’s a misdemeanor. And not a strong pattern with arrests and convictions. NAL but Maryland isn’t as concerned with those. MCPS follows what many general employers follow. Most likely would disqualify her from a federal or state job though. |
Most likely because people are posting a link to the story without any commentary, which is against site rules: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1223795.page As for the topic at hand, this is horrific. What in the hell was this woman thinking? I feel for the victim’s family, the Drew community, and her former students. Jesus. |
No one has this information, not even MCPS since they don't require self-reporting of that. I have an inkling, however, since I've represented more than a handful in DUI cases. |
She wasn’t thinking. Either she’s a sociopath or she’s deep into the throes of addiction. Either way; the whole situation is devastating all around. |
Interesting. So would you suggest that anyone that has used illegal drugs should be prohibited from teaching? |
Ask the students. Word gets around pretty fast. |
Ever used drugs? Depends on the drug and how long ago it was. Two years before they’re hired? Absolutely should disqualify them from being hired as a teacher. |
?? For all we know it could have been weed- which I believe is still considered a controlled substance. Not excusing this behavior, but no knows what she was taking and why that charge was the final one except those involved in the case. So as the employer, they aren’t allowed (supposed) to assume. |
There was alot of commentary. Probably deleted it because it's a personel issue that didn't effect students, which is of course absurd. She probably had drugs on her person in the classroom that children had access to. |
