This smacks of more HR malfeasance and incompetence, similar to the Beidleman scandal, where people who put Beidleman forth for promotion knew he was under investigation for harassment but played dumb until things hit the fan in the Washington Post. Unlike Beidleman, it's hard to presume that Magid got the teaching job because of some connection, but then again, she is the daughter of a notable University of Maryland basketball player and Montgomery Blair High School Alumni, Brian Magid: https://mocoshow.com/2023/07/02/blairs-all-time-leading-scorer-brian-magid-has-high-praise-for-moco-native-nbas-josh-hart/

It's possible that someone knew someone in the hiring process at MCPS and did Brian's daughter a favor and got her hired at MCPS, despite her sketchy criminal background.

Or, it could just be that MCPS's HR department is sloppy and incompetent in its function and someone just [b]failed to do a thorough enough background check.

The fact that either scenario is equally plausible says a lot about the state of MCPS these days.

Hmm....no background check?

MCPS is doing its best to duck and not acknowledge this crazy blemish on its reputation. The principal at Drew Elementary in particular is hiding and demonstrating an embarrassing level of cowardice.

This

How? Just curious

Because MCPS always protects the principals.

Did she have a criminal history before she was hired or previously caught distributing?

She had no criminal charges before this occurred last year.

Nah- there are plenty of spouses and children of MCPS employees that work in the district. Did Sarah have family employed by the district? Yes. Did she get hired because of them? No. It is way too big of an organization to have any benefit.

Local NBC channel was reporting that MCPS's have a backlog of 5,000 employees that still need background checks.

CPS checks are separate from general background screenings

New or purposefully lying on DCUM to spin the narrative away from what is obviously happening within MCPS.

We should make up cool nicknames for all the admins and higher-ups that push data manipulation, grade fraud, and messing with teachers.

Except DUI which is a pre-requisite for working in MCPS.

What did parents of students who had her as their teacher end up doing after her arrest?

DUIs are a traffic charge not criminal. Yearly background checks wouldn’t have prevented her from being in the classroom.
