Trolling aint easy over here. Clearly not a money grab more of a save face for a mediocre conference that needs justification for a 5th spot so its making its clubs jump through more hoops. Get a set ECNL and just take the playoff spot away from the conference, they are not worthy

they did...There is only 4 MA playoff spots this up coming season. 3 from the top 3 in the regular season and 1 will be the in-season tournament winner.

This is because there is only 12 clubs in the division after Fairfax brave and Virginia Union were forced to combine. Division with 12 clubs only gets four spots.

The 5th spot was also taken away due to a disparity between the top seeded teams in champions league and lower teams driven by the large goal differentials in Seattle. Initially MA had 5 spots with the departure of Union factored in because ECNL wanted to expand the champions league bracket to 60 something teams for certain age groups. However after evaluating the recent champions league outcomes, ECNL decided to no longer support the expansion of this pool.

The 5th spot was taken away in the spring as a result of the bay/fxb merger. 5 champions league spots for 12 clubs does not happen. Decision was made well in advance of virginia Union 2010 losing 0-10.

Are you sure about that? 10-0 wow the loss that continues to ripple, what an embarassment

It’s because Union has a very sophisticated style of play. It takes time for the players to learn.

I've no skin in the game here, but hasn't this horse been beat to death at this point.

It's ridiculous to think that a league would change playoff allotments based off 1 team in 1 age group

Your director said MA was losing a champions league slot due to conference performance, bud?

There is no controversy. 12 teams get 4 spots.

We are using a tournament for some games. There is no money grab. It's a good opportunity if you're not one of the top teams.

I think you misunderstood what I was highlighting.

ECNL has created a tournament type event and provided an incentive for teams to participate.

This takes away from local clubs ability to host (and make money from) a tournament.

If you like ECNL I'm sure this sounds great. Personally I'd rather see local clubs run tournaments so they get the $$$ to invest into local player development.

I think you don’t get the concept. The games for this event are worked in during the season. Not taking away from anyone to host a tournament. It games that take place over 3-4 days but they are spread out over the season.

Less teams in ma, therefore tournament adds games balance schedule. Don’t worry one of top teams will win all ages

Every game outside of league takes away from local clubs ability to run independent tournaments.

Maybe instead of forking over $$$ to ECNL you can shovel it.

I'll tell you a secret. The team that earns their way into playoffs will lose in in the first round but at least it will be expensive.
