I am wondering about this too...where my DC stands relative to peers in order to come up with a balanced college list. DC has about 5 unweighted grades including PE and language but should have over 4.5 weighted at end of 11th grade. |
This was my thought and question as well. |
There has been pressure to avoid failing students. |
Any update on how the student GPAs are placed - anyone willin to share, to get an idea of class rank |
That was especially true with the kids who bought their way into TJ. Not so much now though that they only select the top 1.5%. |
This is hard to believe. My 4.5 fcps school kid was 36th. Glitch in the system allowed it to be viewed. Would have been top 6% or so. |
I would expect the weighted GPAs to be slightly lower because the incoming classes will take a slightly smaller number of AP courses and thus be eligible for fewer bonus points. But the unweighted GPAs shouldn't change too much. |
This is all really confusing - so realistically where does a child with 4.4 weighted GPA stand. In the bottom 40% of the batch?? |
It is the other way, 40% of the batch have better than 4.4 weighted. |
Then I guess TJ has grade inflation if 4.5 is top 1/4 of kids versus top 6%. |
Pls can someone explain am so so confused. Would a GPA of 4.4 Weighted that put my DD in top 40% or bottom 40% |
This was answered…in 2022, top 40%. |
Class of 2025 - how are the GPAs looking, higher or lower than 2024. Class of 2025 was the first batch after the admissions policy change. |
Welp, they tried their hardest to keep the GPAs up. They lowered standards, provided extra support and they still had the worst performance they've ever seen. The teachers wrote: "These scores are deeply disappointing, and are the lowest scores we’ve ever seen as Math 4 teachers on a Final Exam." The math teachers noted that the final exam was “substantially easier” than final exams given to previous classes. The teachers said the students had “unprecedented supports provided to you this semester, including extra practice quizzes, bonus quizzes, practice worksheets, and a practice final exam, all things that were not given to previous students.” The teachers continued: "We expected to see scores rise, not drop, with our lowering of standards." As a solution, the teachers said: "We will curve the exam by 10 percentage points (which means 7.5 points, out of 75), but you should know that this curve is artificial and not deserved." They also said: "This indicates to us that you either didn’t study, or you studied poorly. Even worse, the preponderance of evidence indicates that many of you weren’t willing to change how you learned or studied since the start of Math 4." They finish with: "We still believe every single one of you belongs at this school and can succeed" So the students of the new cohort had standards lowered, extra support and still did worse than ever before. But the teachers still believe in them. This was back in 2022, so maybe they were able to bring up their grades over the next few years. We will see. SAT scores will be published and we will also get some idea of what GPAs look like. |
Monitoring. Remedial math has been introduced starting with class of 2025, so curious how their gpa performance turns out compared to previous mostly merit classes. Prior classes also had a portion that were admitted on non-merit basis, but a smaller portion about 20+ compared to 160+ now. |
