Attended a party, suddenly threw up violently

Microbiologist here - immediate (within an hour) symptoms point to bacterial toxins or allergens present in the food. Usually food poisoning comes with a drop in blood pressure (feeling woozy or fainting), stomach cramps, sweating and diarrhea as well. Did you have that?

If you experienced tingling of the lips, mouth or throat, then threw up, it could also be an anaphylactic reaction. Allergies to nuts and seafood are common and can appear at any age.

I'm leaving out the possibility of an alcohol overdose, since you say you can handle your booze.

If you're worried, you could get a skin test panel at an allergist's.

I was outside on the patio during the entertainment portion of the night (where the oysters and caviar were) and the chef who catered the event went to “the back”, meaning somewhere behind the patio area and brought out other samples of caviar

Oh! He just meant he went to get more from the kitchen, or wherever they were working from.

Something similar happened to DD, the young adult. We traveled and the next day went to a party. There was lots of food and people. She started violently throwing up and being sick, but the whole night and the next day.
We thought it was the food, but it turned out it was norovirus. All four of us got it within a day. It was in the news in the country we were in, that there are many norovirus cases.

He didn’t go into the kitchen. The entertainment portion of the night was in the open kitchen/family room area. He went to the back of the patio that they cordoned off as their work area

This makes a lot of sense. I had that special caviar from the back about an hour before. Woozy, and yes, stomach issues.

At 42 I stopped being able to process alcohol. Seemingly overnight. I would wake up puking, sweating after 1 drink.

I have IBS and get diarrhea within 20 minutes of eating certain foods.

PP you replied to. Yes, my daughter has that. But here the main symptom is vomiting and to the best of my knowledge, the IBS cluster of symptoms rarely includes it.

If it's not virus you'd know because your whole family would get it (like above) and people at the party would also get it.

We went out to dinner with friends, and got sick the next day. They told us they got sick the night we saw them
