what colleges are getting a lot harder to get into (and will continue to get harder)

I expect that schools that remain TO will see increasing application numbers, particularly those that are already perceived as being exclusive.

UMD, especially for CS.

This will be interesting. The T10s that reinstated tests will have application numbers go down because the dummies will no longer apply to them and the TOS will get even more applicants. I’m guessing USNWR will change rankings because no way the Ivies ate going to tolerate TOs falsely moving up in this numbers game.

Population growth has stagnated/declined, so there will be less high-school aged kids in the future. Universities are also slowly reversing their standardized test policy, which means fewer applicants to these schools. I think it will be easier, not harder, to get into top schools in 10+ years. (This comment is about long-term, not short-term).

Top top schools will always be difficult and they will always be a "lottery." Ivy+, top LACs, top publics (Michigan, UNC, UC schools). Honestly any school in the T50 range will continue to be difficult.

Yep. The dummies don’t understand how just getting a high number of applicants with no test scores and shooting their shot because they want to drink beer at a football game doesn't change a students odds much. These schools throw out a good 60% or more before they even get to a real review. The high score/high gpa/talented kids are staying the same—it’s more dummies applying.

Thank USNWR.

Well deserved btw.

I find this phenomenon sad. Same thing with Pitt.

Agree with others.

All of my Cali friends say the opposite!

Outside of the top 25-30 which have always been tough, all the OOS publics, especially in the south, have gotten tougher.

Clemson, Auburn, Bama, tennessee, South Carolina, Indiana , Pitt.

Also you may get in but you may not get as much merit as you did even 2-3 years ago.

VT and Jmu too.

+1 I have a friend in NJ whose daughter was counting on Rutgers for engineering. But she ended up at Wentworth in Boston and is loving it.

UF, Clemson, TN - in fact, I believe all the SEC (plus Florida State) schools saw massive application increases. All Ivies got harder other than Harvard.

And your post, with the stupid gaming of the rankings and colleges' influence, is why this entire thing is such a sham.
