Can we accept an offer then decline it later if we get a better one?

There are dozens of kids ready to take any spot on MYS Travel. Coaches don't care unless you're one of their top tier players.

Sure. So when a better kid comes along, why not renege? This one is better, and the kid that gets ditched can just find another spot.

Don't most contracts say that if you accept the offer you owe the full amount for the season no matter what? I didn't think most clubs did a non-refundable deposit. If they did that people would be accepting multiple offers and then saying never mind to all but one. Would create a lot of chaos.

Kids tryout for multiple clubs all the time. It's normal. I used to be with MYS and if I recall it's just a deposit to hold your spot, but you can afford it and decide to move on just do it. Many families in MYS did. Nothing wrong with making your kid's priorities most important.

Clubs have no loyalty at all. I've seen kids kicked off rosters or roster spots left open just in case new kids move into the area or recruited during the season. Travel is cut throat. Do what's best for your kid. Accept the MYS offer and see how Arlington turns out. If he gets the offer he wants move to Arlington.

OP here. My son would only move to Arlington if he gets onto the same team has his friends. They are very similar in skill level so there's a good chance. MYS tryouts is this week and he'll get an offer from his current team. He want to try out for Arlington but that's a month away. There's no way for him to train with Arlington right now. Schedules conflict and I don't think the Arlington kids would care for a MYS player coming in to "train". Was just wondering if the only thing we lost was the deposit.

Most, if not all, of the clubs have outside kids coming to training right now. It's tryout season. Email the coach of the team your kid wants to be on. If he really wants to do it, find a way to work around your schedule conflicts.

Read the fine print. For our club August 1st is when you become locked in. Up until August 1st just lose deposit. Reasonable to me for taking up a slot

You won't need to beg for your player card. All players are protected from this by the state governing body VYSA. Just have your new club request your player card from the old club. And if the old club does not release it in 5 days, the new club puts the request into VYSA, so they can transfer your card for you.

If the team is ECNL or ECNL RL, players are carded through US Club, not VYSA (USYS). Some clubs can and will block you - or make your life difficult (eg pay for the full year) if you are trying to move from one ECNL club to the other. Even if you’ve paid for the year, they can still hold you - not that common, but does happen.

Contact Arlington and see if they will entertain having your kid to a couple of practices asap and see how it goes. Tell them you have an offer and will need to make a decision quickly, so need an idea of team placement. They might work with you, they might not, but it’s a better - and cheaper - option than to accept and then back out.

You’d only lose your deposit. They’re not carding anyone right now during the 2023-2024 season so you don’t have to worry about that. They’ll card your player after the season.

Or if you have to submit a birth certificate just say you lost it and are in the process of getting a new one that takes 4-6 weeks.

Once you pay, that begins the registration process with the governing bodies. Regardless, don’t be a jerk and keep one team hanging for something better. What are you teaching your kid?

If your kid is younger you won’t be alone there have already been several mys boys practicing on Fridays . The kids wouldn’t care if there is another kid at this age if your son went to a few practices. Keep in mind his friends might be on all different teams next year especially if they are u9 or u10

For most clubs, they will make you pay a deposit when you accept the offer.

you don't know which teams your son's friends will end up on either.

don't go to Arlington that has 6 teams to play with friends. you have no idea what the teams will look like next year.

Who ever first cards your kid with ECNL basically owns then for season.. but like op said they dont card till later and you have to provide info.. so you just lose money

That's the whole point. After tryouts if the kid gets onto the team he wants with his friends he will leave MYS. If he doesn't he stays with MYS. That's in the OP post.

You must not know how clubs work. They screw over kids all the time. I know two kids who were on the second best team only to be moved down to the third best time because the coach wanted two players who he knew from the lower team. No warning. Nothing. This occurred this past winter. It was a blow to the face for the two kids and parents.

Also, very common for clubs to leave roster spots literally empty in case they can recruit and steal a better player from another club. Clubs have zero loyalty to the kids. I've always taught my kids, at this age, to look out for their best interest unless it's something illegal or immoral. Clubs don't care if you leave especially clubs like MYS where there is a list of 20-30 kids who didn't get an offer more than happy to jump at an empty spot.

If you are a returning player, they already have your info. No other info is needed.
