You sign a legally binding contract. It's pretty open and closed case. It has nothing to do with your player card. They have retainer lawyers and filling out the paperwork/submitting it is easy. Especially certain DMV clubs... Look at how many coaches have ended up in league troubles this season alone. But if you want to risk it, go for it. Horrible advise for unsuspecting parents tho |

We had a kid who left a month or two after the fall season started. They were paying monthly so they cancelled their future payments.
The club did nothing.

100% Have a Senior in HS and a sophomore. I have seen it all. |
parent politics are very common. +100 we had a coach text my son that his name was on the roster for the first team...and congratulated him. then the next day an offer for the second team came and we found out 2 bench riders were pulled up (they had parents that had big influence in the club). my kid declined and then they started calling us, submitted a new offer, etc. but it left such a bad taste in our mouth we never went back. i'd like to say that was the first instance in the 10 years my kids have been playing club soccer, but there were even worse things and high school took the cake on creative rostering for donors/legacy. next up: the number of times a coach left mid-season or went under or the league changed, etc, etc. |
| The best is when 6 or more kids come from a new club on the last day of tryouts and displace 6 on the current team...when maybe only 1 is good, 2 is of similar level and the other 4 suck. Seen the last minute 'package deal' A LOT over the years...sometimes the coach is with them too. |
That last minute deal is always known to the club well in advance. Only a surprise to its loyal Sometimes it’s even more backdoor those new kids don’t even try out and people are just left mystified that it seems a roster is half full when it is really backfilled |
| Happening to my DC right now. They are clearly among the best, coaches from other teams and teammates all say the same. Yet dc is getting the shaft from the inexperienced coach due to some obvious favoritism. We have another offer thankfully. |
| Unethical. I wouldn’t do it. Call Alex for an early tryout by joining a practice. If they won’t then you have your answer. |
Clearly. |
| I paid the deposit for MYS Aspire 2025-6 but my daughter got an offer for Arlington Blue and wants to stay with Arlington. I have emailed the finance admin to ask if I can use the McLean deposit towards summer camp or keep as credit for future use. Has anyone done this. She is new to MYS so probably does not have a card. Wanted to know if anyone has used the deposit as credit for future use or camp use. Or just lose it and cancel recurring payment to successfully switch clubs. |
You always lose deposits. Is playing on a 4th arlington team better than a 2nd mclean team is the real question |
| Of course! I'm all things not just soccer. But especially for a soccer team. |
If the club is nice, they'll let you use the deposit towards something or even refund, but generally you're just going to lose the deposit regardless of any 'contract'. Nothing binds you financially before the season begins. |
Best to just let the kid decide where they want to play than force them into a place they're not sure about. |
| Yes, always ask the kid where he wants to play. |
