Bus tracking pilot

They need this $ to payout someone who until recently was working for MCPS. Where was that hard earned money of ya'll going to come from? Another failure for this year. Sad.

It's not the first time MCPS has wasted money on this bus tracking stuff either: https://parentscoalitionmc.blogspot.com/2023/01/how-many-times-will-mcps-mocoboe-buy.html

This really isn’t that complicated. Other school systems have been able to implement bus tracking successfully. Yet here we are now with promises made to parents, over a million dollars spent, and nothing to show for it.

Can’t they just air tag all the buses?

Updates every 15 minutes at best. It’s not a real tracker

Yes, we actually do think that. At least we who keep our aluminum foil in the cupboard where it belongs, instead of on our heads.

From email today from Brian Hull MCPS COO

After careful evaluation, analysis, and monitoring of the pilot program, it was determined that the tested mobile application contained a vulnerability that could potentially expose student information. With this knowledge, even though no MCPS student data or information was exposed at any time, it was apparent that the piloted application could not meet our expectations. As a result, we have made the decision to end this specific pilot program.

I see Edulog had a vulnerability reported in the last few months. Anyone know if this is the vendor?

They waste so much money on these gimmicks.

But they'll make it extra complicated and expensive.

Based on the recent past history I woukd say thry are lying and the real reason they canceled it is because they shouldn't be buying a bus tracking app when the budget falls short in so many other areas such as special education. This was mismanagement of funds and a real slap in the face to parents of special needs students- especially in an election year

Special-needs paras and teachers need to raise hell. They need you, they will listen to you.

Yup. There’s no way Brian Hull is being honest. I actually don’t think they’ll use this money for special education, but rather safety and security which also falls under Hull and he was hammered on brutally in that last board meeting over for significant failings.

That was likely the desired result, but there was no way they could go with Edulog after their poor practices were made public by Tenable.

That's peanuts for buying her silence and scape boating her for their own failings. Anyway, they spend more on lunches or bocce than this so not a big deal.

Bocce is something students of special needs can participate in. $ well used. Of course they also need to get more paras and teachers for special needs students and classes.
