Bus tracking pilot

Anonymous
Looks like the bus tracker project is back to the beginning.

From email today from Brian Hull MCPS COO

After careful evaluation, analysis, and monitoring of the pilot program, it was determined that the tested mobile application contained a vulnerability that could potentially expose student information. With this knowledge, even though no MCPS student data or information was exposed at any time, it was apparent that the piloted application could not meet our expectations. As a result, we have made the decision to end this specific pilot program.

I see Edulog had a vulnerability reported in the last few months. Anyone know if this is the vendor?

You know, I'm often frustrated with CO communication, but this message was clear and informative.

While I'm glad they're pulling the plug before who spent the money, it's pretty crappy that we spent this long talking about how this was coming and how parents could expect to have it and now late in the game, they're pulling the plug.

They already spent money looking into it. Let's guess, they needed to free up the money that was planned for bus app to pay out the 1.3.million to someone?

Not a surprise. I don't get the point. Parents can track their own kids.

The point is to be able to track the bus, in the morning, before your kid is on it. Haven't you had any of those mornings at the bus stop when the bus just isn't there at the expected time, and no one knows whether or when it will show up?

Serious question: What is Brian Hull actually good at? Operationally, what wins does he have under his belt?

Yes, Edulog

This seemed a clear communication and a reasonable response of the vulnerability found in the pilot. My guess is with no money to spend, MCPS does not find another pilot program for tracking to try anytime soon.

Don't worry, they won't. Where is our taxpayer's $1.3million, yes million?!

This assumes that FCPS is using the same app and if so that they aren’t exposed to the vulnerability and now having to work with the vendor while it’s remediated.

Folks, do we actually think they were unable to to find a vendor to make this happen meeting whatever expectations? They need this $ to payout someone who until recently was working for MCPS. Where was that hard earned money of ya'll going to come from? Another failure for this year. Sad.
