Last day for seniors

Anonymous
At our MCPS school the seniors “fade out” over the course of a week. Not sure why, but they end on period early, then two, then three, and so on through that Friday.
OP, the kids left behind will find ways to stay occupied and maybe even learn something. My son, now a senior, enjoyed the last days without the seniors in his younger years. Embrace.

Why do the seniors get short changed on the curriculum?

Because graduation happens before the last day of school.

As if any kids are checked in during the month of June....

As an elementary teacher, I'm more curious about the teachers! Do they get to just stop teaching at that point?

Wow. And I thought the post about being disappointed about graduation was ridiculous.

I was wondering the same thing…..

Most HS classes have kids from multiple grades enrolled. It's not ES.

I am a middle school teacher and I always questioned this. Although, there are not a lot of teachers who just teach seniors. Like the OP, many teachers have all grade levels in their class, so they would still be teaching those left. Some classes like English 12 would be an exception. But even then, not many teachers only have 1 prep, they may have a free period here or there. And being a teacher of just seniors does come with extra work that I don't have to do, like college recommendations earlier in the year.

If your senior can't figure out how to use their time the week before graduation, they shouldn't accept the diploma.

I'd expect college rec letters to come from the junior teachers who knew them all year.

Seniors need time to wash dishes to make money to pay their debts before graduation.

I was under the impression that the last day for seniors (may 24 for my senior) is only for seniors who have passing grades, and have met all obligations (returned uniforms/books, completed service hours, fully passing required courses, no fees, etc). Any senior who may have some work to do, use the remainder of the year to get those things in. Teachers still have classes, because other than English 12, there are a number of grade levels in each class. AP Calc may have some juniors, etc.
