Last day for seniors

Anonymous
The last day for seniors at our school is May 31. School doesn’t end until June 13. So the Srs “miss” 9 days of school? There are a few seniors in my son’s math class. If the srs don’t have to learn the material of the last 9 days, why do the other kids?

You cannot be serious. Please tell us you are not for real.

Where did you attend high school? How do you not know why?

Why are you concerned with kids who are graduating not having to learn something that your son does since he will still be in school? You think he should sit on his ass for the last 9 days and learn nothing since the seniors are gone?

Call the school and tell them it’s not fair that the seniors don’t have to and stomp your foot while you’re doing it.

Your son is being taught and you are complaining that graduating kids aren’t there.

You're getting to hate to hear this, but the seniors also get special outfits! With their own little square hats!

(Graduations occur over several weeks in Montgomery County. There's no way to get seniors back in class after they graduate. And it's not fair for seniors with later graduations to have to be in school longer. So they have the last day for seniors on the same day. Don't worry, your kid will also be a senior some day and will get a shorter school year.)

OP's kid should be made to attend so they don't miss the instruction or OP's kid can come babysit the younger classmates for those days, even after their graduation ceremony!

This is the most asinine complaint and that OP cannot figure out why is pathetic.

OP, request that this stupid thread you started be deleted and apologize.

Are you going to start a thread complaining that those same stupid who leave 9 days early have a ceremony just for them?

It's a poster from the private schools. Ignore this post.

At our MCPS high school, it is May 24th, and my senior is very much looking forward to it!

As she has several AP courses, those will already be finished, and she will survive without the last couple of weeks for the rest of the classes.

My 10th grader is jealous, but knows his time will come in a couple of years.

It's all good- they will all survive and thrive. College semesters are already shorter. I remember graduating on May 1st back in the day and we were able to get everything in.

I was also surprised when I learned this many years ago. At my HS, seniors had the same end day as everyone else. It does seem odd to do it the way McPS does. The truth is that in most of the advanced classes that seniors take, there is nothing being covered in the last few weeks. They are watching movies.
This is a reason why people wanted school the start in August, but that wasn’t popular.

I thought it was Friday May 24th for seniors at all MCPS high schools. It's always the Friday before Memorial Day.
