Dealing with a kid peeing on our fence?

This is a problem that will 100% solve itself in time, and probably not much time. I would reposition my security camera so I am not capturing children peeing and move on.

I wonder if he’s doing it for the camera?

Yawn…

“my son needs privacy while he publicly urinates on your property”, “boys will be boys”, “my son would never!”

Boy parents are so lazy! Parent your child. A five year old should not be wandering alone peeing in others yards.

While it's not the end of the world, it's also the kind of thing an adult needs to correct. That adult should be one of his parents. We don't get civilized kids -- boys or girls -- without actively teaching them manners. And yeah, even if he's playing outside and just doesn't want to stop and hey, he's only five. blah blah...this is bad manners, period.

Before the "boys will be boys" brigade tries to create a false equivalency: It's not the same as having to pull over on a long road trip because a kid can't hold it and you have to find a quick, isolated spot outdoors for a pee, folks. This is outside his own house with a bathroom, in the middle of town.

I would mention it but in a very chill way as someone else mentioned. This is a little kid and it’s not the end of the world, but it does need to be addressed. Just say, “hopefully we can both laugh about this, but I did want to mention it….!”

Bring it up with his parents. I'm tired of parents raising entitled boys - wait and use the bathroom like the rest of us.

If you happen to see them out and about with the kid, maybe casually mention that it would be a good idea for the kid to use the bathroom before going out to play. 100% he is not doing it to be malicious.

What I’m a little more worried about is a 5 year old playing without adult supervision…

Are you crazy? There are no circumstances where it is all right for a child of any age to urinate on a neighbor's fence or property. Only white trash thinks there is nothing wrong with anyone urinating in public!

If he's done it several times, it's time to laughingly tell his parents that their kid is on camera peeing repeatedly on your fence, and could they please tell him not to do that. If you're home and catch him in the act, tell him to stop.

Easy. No parent would be offended, OP.

Can you electrify the fence? Urine is a conductor. One jolt and he'd never do it again

Great idea.

The same people saying this is totally ok are the first ones to complain if someone’s dog urinates anywhere near the edge of their yard.

Um, as opposed to what??

Yes, and I highly suspect some people would change their answer if it were a 5 year old girl hiking up and squatting on a regular basis.
