Ok mid-rise and low-rise pants - you can come back now

As someone in their 50’s who is tall with a flat stomach, I hate low rise jeans with a fiery passion. 99% of people who wear low rise have a muffin top and you see their crack every time they sit down. No thank you.

OKay, but that same belly fat doesn't actually look better stuffed into a tight tube of denim cinched tight at the top and showcased with a shirt that ends above the hip.

I have been waiting YEARS for normal mid-rise straight leg pants to come back in style so that I can find some to buy. And while we're at it, longer shirts too.

Another vote for high rise even with my short waist.

We don't mean 2004 Britney Spears when they say low rise, complete with a thong and tramp stamp. No, just something - anything, please dear god - that ends just below the navel

Speak for yourself!

I would like nothing better than a return to early 2000s low rise jeans on chicks. Bare midriff, tight abs, belly button ring, underwear just peaking out. Women have never looked better.

Two things:

1) Wearing high rise does not have to mean wearing sling tight high rise that accentuates the roundness of your belly. I have one pair of high rise jeans that are very fitted and I save them for when I'm at my thinnest with no bloating (the belly is pretty naturally flat but it fluctuates with time of the month and other issues). But I have other high rise pants that aren't so tight and there's no "bulge" even though yes, I have a post-40, post-baby roundness in my belly. They are just pants that come up to my natural waist instead of below.

2) With low and mid rise pants, you can have the exact same problem with belly bulge if you wear them tight, only it's worse because it bisects all the weight in your midsection and can create a bulge above AND below the waistline. This is, IMO, much less attractive than the belly bulge in too-tight high rise jeans. I also find it harder to address. I can get rid of the "pooch" in high rise jeans by just sizing up one size. In low rise jeans, sizing up will result in them literally falling off. With mid-rise it might be okay but they will also wind up sitting lower. The nice thing about high rise is that the waist band sits on your waist, which is generally the smallest part of your body, and stays there. For me, at least, this is more flattering regardless of how pronounced my belly is at the moment.

Chicks? Are you 70?

Mid-rise is clearly the way to go.

My short torso and I agree. I tried on a pair of jeans that went up to my ribcage and that’s neither a look nor a sensation I want.

I had a baby at 38, 5’5 115 lbs. After my year of looking like I just rolled out of bed, I decided to buy new clothes and convinced myself that high-waist, wide-leg pants would make me look “put together.” In reality, it was just extremely uncomfortable over my postpartum belly and made me look even bigger. At 41, I’ve finally made the return back to mid-rise slims.

PP here. I'd also like full length pants to come back.

Why is it not flattering? As long as you wear a normal shirt it’s not going to look that different. Agree that the crop top-high rise look isn’t great on many.

I am a pear so I appreciate high rise because it just fits better. But definitely not that comfy!

OP, just go to Chicos. You don’t have the body for random hopeful Amazon orders, you need a store that designs to flatter pooches and less wannabe fashiony trends.

I have a feeling you meant to score a point here while being ageist. Your type is easier to spot than you think due to your boring overuse of 'boomer,' 'Karen,' Chico's and my favorite, 'pearl clutcher.'

Anyway, the people who actually look the worst in high waist jeans are the Body Positive 14-30 year olds with a BMI >35. Extra good when the jeans are 2 sizes two small and worn with a baby T.

J Crew has mid-rise, straight leg.

if you’re short, switching to petite can help, too, but the cropped denim can make that tough, since a lot of jeans are already cut a little short.

Pay attention to the rise measurement; not all high rise (or mid rise) are the same.
