Do people marry for money? Are you serious?
90% of the reason a woman marries a man is for money. Let's not fake it. It's the truth. How many attractive women do you see with UGLY men? How many attractive women do you see with UGLY men who are rich? A man will marry a beautiful kind women who works at McDonald's. A women would NEVER marry a handsome kind man who works at McDonald's. |
I married a handsome man who was a bartender. |
They often don't know the financial situations of the people they date in college and grad school though. Also, outside of massive generational wealth, a family's situation doesn't mean the kid will have a ton of money. I do feel for those people who stick with a spouse through law school or med school and early associate years or residency only to have the marriage break up. |
She might if he brings her a Happy Meal! |
A woman could write an excellent dissertation disproving this and men like you still wouldn't believe it. It's like you're angry than you can't get the kind of woman you want, and so have to come up with a reason for your lack of success that isn't "I'm just kind of a mediocre man and don't have a lot to offer in the way of emotional intelligence, loyalty, personality, or responsibility." If you can't afford a hot woman who will let anything slide as long as she gets paid, just say that. |
I didn’t marry for money but I knew he had a very good education plus ambition and potential. We were both in our mid 20s from MC families and neither of us had much money in the bank. A prior BF came from a very wealthy family but he had a lot of problems. My DH has been very successful, as was I, so I made a good bet. |
Would you have married the same man minus the education and potential? So many of these rebuttals are I didn't marry the rich man, I just married the man who was a good bet to become rich |
*How* many? |
divorced and dating. money and what someone makes plays a huge part of who i choose as a partner at this point in life. |
I doubt that. Nobody's kids are in their control anymore. |
I'm going to guess that PP's answer is no. However, that is very different from Jackie's mom pulling strings to get her married to uber rich men. Also, you have to understand that PP is different from many women. A lot of women have married men without "very good" educations and not a lot of ambition and have been happy with their choice. This might come as a shock to you, but there are billions of women and we don't all have the same wants and motivations (although there will be more overlap on DCUM). |
Really? I don't know any wealthy guy who would marry a McDonald's worker. All the UMC guys I know married peers they met at college, grad school or in their careers. The women usually are better looking because they work at it. |
The pp’s NEVER may have been hyperbole but assuming you are a college educated woman you are clearly an outlier. Just look at the 100s of threads in the money and finance forum where people list their/their spouse’s income…..90% percent of the time the DH’s salary is significantly higher. |
At the time they got married? |
PP, no because he wouldn’t have been the same man! |
