I think UVA now closes the waitlist in June

This just does not make any sense. What month did she get off the waitlist at UVA?

For many programs, UMich is significantly better. That’s why so many Virginians apply. It’s not weird at all. UVA is too small to serve its state well. Do you honestly believe many top students from Michigan apply to UVA?

Of course! It was all about saving $$$. She would have excelled at Michigan as well.

UVA needs to figure out how to expand so our top students can stay in state. No, my high stats kid doesn’t want to go to W&M or VT. Virginia is failing the taxpayers.

When was this OP?

UVA needs to increase instate enrollment. It’s too small of a flagship to accommodate a state of our size. It should be like UNC and have an 85% instate enrollment. Even with W&M, not enough top students in Virginia are being well served.

if your kid doesn't want to go to W&M or Tech, or any of the other great state schools we have here, how is that VA failing us? That's your kids choice.

Probably many years ago.

Great state schools, but not top 25. Additionally, W&M isn’t really appealing to many kids. More of a niche school.

Because the other two schools are not in the same tier as UVA. All the other top tier flagships in this country enroll enough of their top instate students.

At this point, do the LOCI and wait. Only a month to go! I know it’s hard. Our student is waiting on loads of RD. Tell her to tune out the noise from the kids that have committed / this is her own journey and she’s waiting for all of her choices to become clear. Most kids have not decided!
(Ours is postponed at Michigan, too).

Interesting, my kid is in at UVA and VA Tech, but deferred at Michigan. Engineering.
