AZ has it ALL WRONG. AZ should put pressure on the federal government to secure the border and AZ should turn its attention there. Clogging up the broken system with people just trying to make a buck so their children can eat doesn't help. That governor is crying for border control to stop human trafficking and narco-terrorism. Arresting someone at a traffic stop seems an indirect solution and begs for corruption and profiling.

PPs are right, this event is tragic because of what happened. The immigration status of the offender is an outside issue. Any asshole American could do the same.

Wow - a lot of liberals on this thread and obviously they are more than willing to accept that this country is being taken over and ruined by illegals. It is a known fact that people are being murderd, raped, etc by illegals - this is not made up, it is fact (google murdered/raped by illegal immigrant). And the more illegals in the country the more this will happen. Why is it that all of you who think it is such a bad thing to say something about an illegal immigrant thinks it is okat that they are here in our country? They don't belong here and they are adding to America's problems - not helping! My God father 's wife of 20 something years, mother of his children, and high school sweet heart was killed by an illegal immigrant( I believe from europe). He was drunk, and ran a stop sign. This was a few years ago. Her youngest son was so distraught during the funeral he shit his pants.

Again, TERRIBLE and heartbreaking and I'm sorry for this loss, but it HAS NOTHING TO DO with the fact he was an illegal immigrant! do you know how many drunk americans kill people everyday? It's like saying we should eliminate all African American people because OJ Simpson killed a woman. If there were no black people in this country it woudln't have happened. It's just discriminatory and racist however you want to look at it. I GUARANTEE you there are far more illegal immigrants that do great things here than rapists and murderers. This was his third offense in 5 years. What's that saying "Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me" ? The US got fooled 2 extra times - he should have been deported after breaking the law the first (technically the second since he was here to begin with) time. Play by the rules and I'll look the other way. Flaunt it and you had better believe I'm going to be angry.

What other country would allow me to stay there without a visa, break the law on multiple occasions and let me get away with it?

Well, I'm a convert as well simply because of the fact that the federal government is incompetent to do their jobs. States, and the citizens who live in those states have the right to enforce the law. Maryland and other states are welcome to be havens and allow all of them in, but other states should be able to exercise their rights for what is best for their citizens. Arizonians overwhelming support this law and that is their perogative.

I agree with you, but you will not get through to all the immigrant-haters. Because their minds are made up that illegal immigration is the worst scourge to hit this country, ever, and they will never listen to reason.

I didn't see much outcry here over the drunk-driving crash where a woman was totally shit-faced and killed 2 Hispanic men when she ran their car off the Beltway. I guess a nun's life is worth more than the lives of 2 Hispanic men, or we're more sympathetic because that drunk driver was a white woman in her 30's.
