“I don’t work here” rude?

Perfectly appropriate, OP. And kudos for not responding in kind to her rudeness.

She was a jerk

Sometimes when people are embarrassed they act huffy instead.

Obviously, because only POC get asked if they are store employees, and the white woman must be racist.

She was rude.

The good news is your makeup must have looked great!!

I always look like garbage when I go in there so no one would ever ask me if I worked there 😂

This is why I always make sure I'm not wearing a red polo before I go to Target.

this happened to me yesterday. i was just looking at stuff i was looking for when an older lady asked me if they had a paper towel holder. i didn't tell her i didn't work there. i just said, "i don't know, but i can help you look." then i looked for it for her and told her that i didn't see anything like that and good luck finding one.

Why did you let her talk to you like that?? You should have let her have it!

Seems classic she was embarrassed and was rude because of it. No excuse, but it means it had nothing to do with you, OP.

I once turned to a woman to ask for help and she was a mannequin.

This used to happen to me a lot when I was younger and did not wear a jacket or carry a purse in the middle of midwest winters.

I looked up, realized she was talking to me and said “Sorry, I don’t work here”. She replied, “you don’t have to rude, can you just point me in the direction of someone who does work here?”

I told her that I haven’t seen anyone who isn’t already helping someone and then I walked away.

I’m not exactly sure why/how I was rude but I’m also on the spectrum and have issues with understanding social cues at times. Advice?

Op are you brown? I’m AA when people do this to me I tell them they are being racist .
