When I say, "Some people drive recklessly," I am stating a fact. I am not endorsing reckless driving.

The members of the Montgomery County Council were elected by the voters of Montgomery County. That's how democracy works.

The candidates are usually a bunch of hacks. Obviously the area skews blue, which is great, but there are never moderate options. It's all super progressive people with no understanding of economic or criminal policy. I've never voted for a republican in my life but I think, at least in local elections, I need to start doing that. It's getting beyond ridiculous Moco is bleeding out but we would rather focus making sure people's feelings don't get hurt.

Have you sat in a council meeting? It's embarrassing.

Speeding a factor.

Excuse was he didn’t have a license because he was low income.

Someone may have used this excuse, but whoever it was, it wasn't the councilmember being attacked in the OP.

No, it wasnt, you’re right about that but I posted to show that this is a more widely held belief than some might think which seems nuts.

If they have such limited resources that they resort to crime, a little jail time will do them good. Saves them on rent and they get 3 free meals a day!

Same logic she’s using.

Everything is oppression/racism/sexism. It can't possibly be due to peoples' poor choices to break the law. No one is ever personally responsible, some -ism is always to blame. Mink is absolutely nutso.

I agree with her 100%

Then here is a three-step plan for you:

1. Find a candidate you support (or run yourself).
2. Persuade eligible voters to vote for your candidate (or you).
3. Get more votes than the other candidates.

The logic she's using is that the prospect of higher fines will not deter people from driving without a license. Do you think the prospect of jail time will deter people from driving without a license?

Not just pedestrians--other drivers, too!

I remember all the way back to 2022 when Esther Wells was running for school board as just a concerned mom and accountant.

BS.

No one wants to address the elephant in the room - we have so many people driving without DLs and/or insurance because a) we have an enormous population of illegal immigrants living in our sanctuary county, b) people don't give a crap about having a DL because laws aren't enforced, and c) people would rather take the risk of driving without either DL and/or insurance becuse it saves them money. Blaming 'lack of resources' is a cop out that can serve as a panacea to excuse away anything besides personal responsibility.

No one is ever responsible for their terrible choices these days, and the rest of us in society keep paying and paying who obey laws and rules because our pols like Mink condone it.

You get to have your opinions, including about elected officials, but you don't get to have your own facts about what the elected officials did or did not say.
