You can't even make this stuff up: https://twitter.com/EstherLWells/status/1757662651218284860

| She's out of her mind and anyone can see it. Hope she has a strong challenger when she's up for re-election. |

I will agree with one of the comments on that Twitter thread. KM is a danger to Montgomery county. I really hope she is not reelected.
I would like to listen to this in its full context. Do you happen to have a link, so I can listen to that session. I would like to listen a few minutes before, and after to get a greater understanding of what they’re discussing. |

Wonderful excuse for increasing danger for pedestrians.
Everything is oppression/racism/sexism. It can't possibly be due to peoples' poor choices to break the law. No one is ever personally responsible, some -ism is always to blame. Mink is absolutely nutso. |

What she actually said: many people drive without a license due to limited resources [this is a fact] and so higher fines would not deter them from doing so [a reasonable conclusion].
I remember all the way back to 2022 when Esther Wells was running for school board as just a concerned mom and accountant. |
|
can we please bring back the Moco of the 90s/early 2000s
What planet are these loonies living on? |
The Montgomery County of 2024. What planet are you living on? |

The problem with this is it ends up raising your auto insurance.
Those that cannot afford a license cannot afford auto insurance. Everyone's rates go up from uninsured motorist accidents. People that cannot afford a license and cannot afford auto insurance should be taking the bus or biking to work. |
Nobody said that it's ok to drive without a license. Merely that higher fines will not deter people from doing so. |
So put them in prison where slavery is legal and we can sell their labor to pay for car insurance subsidies for wealthy drivers. |
Correct. So MoCo. Should run more buses, build more bike lanes, and build more high density housing. |
|
This was an excuse used for the unlicensed driver of the car that crashed at 5am that killed at least 1 person, injured 5 others leaving only the driver as the only uninjured out of the 7 kids in the car, out in McLean (I think it was McLean). 6 kids ejected, none of them wearing a seatbelt. Speeding a factor.
Excuse was he didn’t have a license because he was low income. |
|
Provide programs for low income residents to legally get their license. It's in everyone's interest that these folks learn the rules of the road and safe driving practices.
Can't afford to pay your fines/tickets? Set up a public service program that requires them to do X amount of hours of community service at their local school, church, clean up the neighborhood, etc. |
Someone may have used this excuse, but whoever it was, it wasn't the councilmember being attacked in the OP. |
When I was in high school, there was driver's ed, in school, for free. |
